Dubai is intense

My dad visited it and got to go within 1km of the 7 star hotel (he didn't know you needed at least a $40 reservation for tea to go inside)

I know I've asked this before, but which terrorist group is going to be the first to take it out with a 747?

I watched several shows on the construction and engineering of that building.
With some of the 'shortcuts' they made, I would be very concerned.

The construction crews were so inept that the foreman in charge was ready to quit.
They couldn't even build a cinder block wall properly in the basement.

Another thing was that as they were building up they noticed that it wasn't constructed properly so the upper floors were leaning further and further in. The solution they used was to add more thickness to the outer walls to make it work.

I see bad things for this towers future.

ha, I just looked at a reservation there for one night (after seeing your post I was curious), cheapest room is $1,600 a night.

Why would they blow it up, they own it.

And that thing kinda looks like the central spire on Atlantis.

Jumping from there is probably safer than what they had to do for Dark Knight. Plenty of time to pop the chute and glide before you reach the nearby buildings.

I get the impression that Arabs believe having fancy buildings will make them a great country.

Skyscrapers are something to be proud of. You don't see countries with nonexistent economies building the tallest building in the world.

BASE Jumpers are already targeting Burj Dubai to achieve world record jumps. There are 2 documented attempts, one by a 36-year-old British jumper and another by a 47-year-old French jumper. The latter's attempt was hindered as he was arrested before jumping, whereas the Briton was successful in his jump, but was arrested upon landing. His altimeter showed a jump from over 600 m (1,969 ft).

For more info for everyone:

Burj Dubai is being built primarily by immigrant engineers and workers from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, China and the Philippines. Press reports indicate that skilled carpenters at the site earn US$7.60/day, and laborers earn US$4.00.[
