Why yes, yes I am a mechanical engineer. I threw that in there because jpeyton was whining about hearsay. I wanted to say that I'm not just repeating something on blind faith that the other person told me the truth, I've actually studied this stuff before.

I get the impression that Arabs believe having fancy buildings will make them a great country.

Skyscrapers are something to be proud of. You don't see countries with nonexistent economies building the tallest building in the world.

Some try, but they do it poorly.

That thing looks like a huge rocket. Is anyone sure there isn't a hidden warhead inside?!

I know I've asked this before, but which terrorist group is going to be the first to take it out with a 747?
You could fly an A380 into it and it still wouldn't go down. Properly engineered and constructed skyscrapers don't go down if a single plane hits it. I guess that tells you something about the quality of the twin towers.

Besides, all you need to do to prevent another 9/11 is put about $50 worth of steel reinforcements on the cockpit door.

The twin towers were properly engineered as commercial structures. Pre-9/11, how much time did architects really spend safe-guarding their structures from 747 attacks?
