Lets kick a little DSLR A$$!!:D

OH and don't forget to JOIN the TeAm Anandtech when you are setting the clients up!!! :p

PLUS if you know people( parents/freinds ) that have computers but maybe don't belong to the Anandtech forums, this would be a great opporunity to get them involved in our community! - BUT DON"T forget to have them crunch some WUs for us too :p

TheKidd, we support all of the DC Projects. If you prefer Genome@Home, then good for you and more power to you. A lot of us are interested in finding proof that we are not alone in the universe but even more of us are interested in racing our PCs. :D

It is all in good fun and helps ongoing science experiments. If you could help us out during the race, we'd really appreciate it. :)

I see we have gotten a lot of positive responses in this thread and we need to make sure everyone actually signs up for the TeAm.

So be sure after you have signed up for SETI and have gotten the CLI up and running that you visit the Join Team AnandTech SETI Webpage and Join Up!. :D

I will attempt to up my production all I can. My server and game rigs are OC'd to the max, but I think my workstation rig can give me a few more MHz. I am also working to minimize downtime and not do anyhting CPU intensive if I can help it. :)

End result: I might be able to do 13 workunits a day, as opposed to 11. :D

ATTENTION 56k PEOPLE! SETI@home downloads a 350k packet (easily handleable by a 56k modem) and then analyzes it and send back a 3k result packet. Analyzing these packets can take anywhere from 3.5hr on a Athlon 1900+ to 55hr on a P 133 (or worse for slower machines but I don't have numbers. It is the processing not tha downloading that takes all the time. Personally I have 6 machines all sharing 1 56k connection and I don't even notice the uploading and and downloading that SETI does.

<< we'll lose again >>

Perhaps. Or perhaps we won't. Even if we do, we'll give them one hell of a fight! Whether you can do one wu per day or 10 or 50, please give us a hand. Our honor is at stake.

And for those who say that S@H isn't a worthy project, please remember one thing: Seti@Home was the first successful distributed computing project ever attempted on this scale. It pioneered the concept and the techniques, and paved the way for virtually all other DC projects being run today. As Smokeball mentioned, all projects supported by TA are worthy projects. We'd be very appreciative if you could just help us out during the race so we can show DSLR that the TA community is a force to be reckoned with.

And thanks to all of you who have just recently joined to help us out. Welcome!

Bump

I joined TeAm Anandtech back in February with about 100 WUs, and now i have over 2000. I have been gripped by all the races that happen between teams, such as the forthcoming one with DSLR, but also the races within Team Anandtech. I have just about finished the 3rd Mini Team Race, and a new one will more than likely start up in the new year, and have been in a couple of races in OhioDude's Seti Race League. These races are guaranteed to have you running out and buying new equipment, and also assimilating other people's machines, and running it on there under your account.

Many people come for the race, and stay for the stats and the members :)

I rather if I were to use my cycles for anything... use them for cancer research. Which is prolly a lil bit better payoff than looking for ET

I would join if I wasnt already in Descenters for SETI. I am a Descenter first and foremost, and then an Anandtecher. Sorry.

DannyLove: We don't want that to happen, that's why we're trying to get people to join up, and I think that everyone is going to try to max out their production.

SWSorch: That's cool, you should stop by the DC forum sometime anyway, we treat visitors from other teams just as if they were our own, and there are always interesting topics :)

Welcome to everyone that's joined so far!

We're happy to have anyone, no matter what processing power you have. Do you just want to run the screensaver version with the pretty graphics on your old P133? That's great, we'd love to have you. Got an officeplace full of P4s that sit idle a lot? We'd love to have you!

It may seem kind of geeky, or you may think that the project is pointless or silly, but give it a shot, it's actually quite fun! As mentioned by Sukhoi, we have a couple of daily stats runs so that everyone can see how much they're producing, and how their rankings are doing. We also have individual races, where several people will race to get to a certain milestone, such as 1000 WUs. 1000 WUs, even at at 4 hours apiece for a good machine, wow, sounds like a lot, right? Not really, you'd be surprised at how fast you get there! It's almost like an addiction, you start out with 1 machine, maybe running the GUI (screenaver). Then you switch to the CLI (command-line) version. Next thing you know, you've got every possible machine you can running SETI for you, and you look at everything in terms of possible SETI assimilations... When I started out just over a year ago running it on my PII 233@307, Sukhoi, who got me to join up in the first place, had about 600 WUs... I never thought I'd make it anywhere near there, and now I have 1700+. The other main thing we have is the Mini-Team races. The first one went for a little less than a month in July and August, and featured 2 teams and 25 racers. After that, we had the Halloween Grand Prix, which ran from near the end of August to, oddly enough, Halloween, with 32 racers. We just finished our latest race, the Holiday45, which started 45 days ago, and ended just under 4 hours ago. This time we had 3 "super-teams", each divided up by production into "mini-teams", and we had over 50 racers! We don't have plans for another one yet, I think everyone needs a break from this one, but hopefully in the new year, or maybe after the race with DSLR, we'll have another one.

So, join us for the race, or at least give it a shot, if you don't like it, that's alright, but judging from the amount of people that joined the last time we were racing DSLR and how almost all of the stayed, and the way that many new members get very involved in the community, I think you'll probably like it :)

Added bonuses to doing SETI (or another DC project) for the TeAm:
- the Distributed Computing forum is probably the best tech support forum on the whole board, people are extremely friendly, and you usually get replies quicker as well
- it provides a great excuse to buy new or upgrade old hardware
- if you're really competitive, there are lots of races and stuff to satisfy that feeling
- you get beer and babes for passing milestones

P.S. If you're already somewhat into SETI, and want to add more processing power, but are having trouble getting it, try offering free tech support to neighbours, friends, and family if they'll run SETI for you.

P.P.S. Worried that SETI will eat up all of your already strained processing power? No problem, you can run the screensaver version, which only runs while your screensaver is active (and has very pretty graphics if you choose it as your screensaver), or you can run the command-line (CLI; much faster) version with a utility such as SETI Driver to control its priority, and you won't even notice a difference, even on older, slower machines.

People are joining up like crazy but we still need more help. Please consider donating anything you can whether it be 1WU the entire time or 100WU/day we will appreciate it just the same and your company in the Dc forum even more.

Hmm, both of my main machines are running S@H for Descenters for SETI, but I can spare my P233 for AT. I know its not much, but its better than nothing eh? I'll set it up to run for AT tomorrow.

I will donate 10 Athlon 1.2 gig, and 8 Duron 800 mhz from my RC5 herd over to SETI (even though these rigs are playing games 24-7). Better then nothing. :D

Hey guys! I just joined on Halloween of this year and I am already addicted. I made a SETI recruiting page even (http://www.teriba.com/seti.html)! Talk about fun!

Every day you can go to the Distributed Computing Forum and check out how many WUs you put out yesterday, our daily team stats in relation to the other teams, how many days until we pass IBM, Microsoft and Intel (all less than 2 months away), etc. Here's a sample of yesterdays team stats:

12 Planetary........................(+197696)................... +2088
13 M$...................................(+188547)....................... -353
14 IBM....................................(+81215)................... +1789
15 TA.................1324236........................................ +4471
16 DSL.....................................(-55395).................. +3891
17 HP.....................................(-246953).................. +1692

As you can see we are doing very well, but it is true that DSL usually beats us. Today was just a good day with all of the new members signing up. Do your part to repay the site that you spend many hours on and raise it's name high on the SETI team rankings!!

I just joined up!

Running it on my ME boot right now, but I'll have it running in XP with dual 866's most of the time. :)

Bump....getting good help so far (thanks to those who have joined already) but we need more to make sure that we beat DSLR and in the process pass IBM and Microsoft! Think about how many times you have wanted to pummel Microsoft! Now is your chance!

<< to 55hr on a P 133 >>

I'd like to see the P133 that does a work unit in 55 hours. It takes my K62-450 about 80-100 hours/WU
