Canon 20D
EF 17-40L F4 (I LOVE this lens)
EF 70-200L F4 (Probably should have waited and got the F2.8 with IS)
EF 50 F1.8 (best $70 I've ever spent!!)

I am thinking getting the EF 135L F2, which is just a sweet lens from what I've seen (and read), but I can't do it right now ($900). I also want the vertical grip for the 20D, but people have been reporting all kinds of problems with those so I'll wait for now.

I bought most of this back in March this year. I moved to the 20D from a Canon S1 IS (great little camera).

We are all pretty much nikon/canon whores here I suppose that we are as a rule satisfied with what we have. I suppose that is a testiment to modern camera manufacturers.

If GM made cars like Canon or Nikon, they wouldn't be in the mess they are.

I am debating on whether to buy a zoom telephoto (Canon 70-200 F2.8L or Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS) or a prime telephoto (Canon 200 F2.8L). The prime costs half or a third the cost of the 70-200s.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It really depends on the what you will be shooting. I know for a fact that the 70-200 is a champ performer. IS makes it nice but is not necessary.

If you have a decent sub 200 lens, then I would be temped to go with the prime, simply because it allows money for things like new flashes etc, but I am sure your needs are different than mine

I have that, and I used to have some lenses for a F100, but I gave them to my dad (after I got the D70, I didn't use them much) with it for some money for college. He almost got me the 70-200mm VR Nikkor for my birthay (damn that would've been nice), but I made him give me money (which I bought the 70-300 with) instead (damn college sucks!).

Edit: I also have an SB-600, and I WANT to get the Tokina 12-24mm, and probably will after the school year starts again and I've bought all of my school stuff.

if i were you, i'd get the D70 as a backup. it's cheaper than the D100 and is loaded with more features than the D100 as well.

Canon Digital Rebel XT here, w/ the Kit Lens (18-55MM).

Anxious to upgrade the lens, but, haven't decided which one I want to get first, or if I should get the external flash first (420ex probably). So, it's basically a toss up between the 50MM F1.8, the Sigma 18-200MM, or the Flash. I do a wide range of 'family' shots and the occasional trip to the Zoo. So, probably my best bet is to get the 50MM, the Flash, and the zoom lens last, and by then maybe I'll want something different than the Sigma.

Anyway, what I have now is a definite upgrade from my Minolta S404. I'm very happy. I got the Black XT from Dell when they had the first of their blow-out sales on 'em. Took a few weeks to arrive but I wasn't in a hurry and I'm happy. I know a few folks canceled and got the D70 in that time. I was tempted but the XT was a closer match to what I wanted.

Why not the Canon 1D? 4 Megapixels is usually more than adequate (My D2H has 4mp). Integrated vertical grip, blistering fast AF, great buffer. You can still find a 1D's under 8k actuations on fredmiranda.com for around $1600-1700. Unless you have the money for a MarkII.

True enough. I could go for a used 1D, but my 10D serves me very well; well enough that it'll hold me over until the next generation of 1-Series is off backorder. A used MKII is an attractive option also; but I'm more interested in the next generation of Canon EOS than an increment (even if a large increment) over what I already have. I'm patient, and I'm comfortable with a $3,000.00 camera purchase in a years' timeframe. Then again, perhaps I'll just get some glass, stand pat on my 10D and sink the dough into another obsession.
