lol Listen to the link I posted. I've also got some personal experience where I would've like a gun, and instead I had to rely on luck as much (if not more so) than good judgement. All of said situations were completely unforeseeable and were not instigated in the slightest by me. To give you the short versions, have you ever had a confrontation with a Hispanic gangbanger checking out your car in the good side of town? Have you ever seen a child get beaten in a public parking lot and stared down the beater, but knowing that he's bigger than you and if he pulls out virtually anything you're fucked? (probably the only reason I got away with it was because the lot was fairly crowded and I was a good 30' away) Have you ever busted a tire at night in a strange area and gotten some disturbing looks from some of the passer-bys? And you tell me that CCW is a bad thing? Or that the only crimes it will prevent are what criminals do for fun? You are full of lulz my friend.

And no, I'm not playing internet tough guy. All of the above are exactly as occurred with no exaggeration. I can provide more details if you like, including specific locations. Either way, deal with it.

And answer this: If, say, 25% of the adult population carried, meaning if a crime was committed against any one person there was a 1:4 chance of the criminal meeting deadly resistance, do you think crime would go up or down?

Alright, I'll take this as a request for details. As for your general statement concerning 911, when bad things happen you've got act quickly. When seconds matter, the police are only minutes away. Oh, and the criminals are already armed genius. Last I checked most don't care about gun laws in the first place.

1. Back in high school I ate at the same place, here virtually everyday after school. This area, during the daytime, is known to be safe and is frequented by cops for meals. I usually got take out on my way home, so one day I go in and get my take out as usual (junior year of high school). I come out and there's this guy with a weird and very prominent earring (later confirmed as a hispanic gang symbol) checking out my car. As in face pressed against the driver's side window looking in. We notice each other when I'm about 20' away, and he gives me an eyes-wide death glare. I immediately drop eye contact and walked evasively back towards the Chipotle (where people were) and eventually he got in his car and drove off. But if he'd come at me with anything, I'd have been screwed. Obviously, I should have asked him to stand there and wait a minute while I called the cops.

2. So I was shopping at this Target. Had just parked my car and was heading inside, when I see a guy who looked like your stereotypical gangsta thug pulling (presumably) his kid harshly by the ear. Harsh, but nothing to get involved in. As they passed me I heard him say "you like throwing temper tantrums? Well let me show some of the temper tantrums I like to throw." At this point I kept walking, but kept him in the corner of my eye. He took the kid back to a black SUV, and punched him in the shoulder. He then grabbed the kid (who was maybe 8-10) by the shoulder, shoved him back against the car violently twice banging the kid's head against the car. He then punched the kid in the kidney such that the kid doubled over, then looked around, saw me looking straight at him (I had been the whole time), looked straight back at me for a few seconds. Told his kid to "get your bitch ass in the car", then got in and drove away. Wish I'd had the presence of mind to get the bastard's license plate. Guess it was a combination of bystander effect and sleep deprivation (was going off about 2 hours and was late afternoon), but I'm still kicking myself about it. Sorry, but when I see a kid getting beaten I feel an urge to intervene. I intervened as best I could under the circumstances. You probably would have just let the kid get beaten while you scampered away and called the cops who, when they got there, would probably not have been able to do jack shit as the guy would probably be gone.

3. Last February I was driving back to campus (I attend UD) exiting off 95 to route 273. I hit a pothole, blew out a tire, and had to park at a nearby Pizza Hut. It was dark, and this was actually my first tire change ever, so I was piecing it together as I went. Now this is not the worst part of town, but at the time I wasn't familiar with it. Suffice to say a group of guys came out of the Pizza Hut and seemed cool at first, then they noticed me a couple just stopped talking and stared straight at me. And it was a predatory stare, not an inquisitive one. I don't know what their deal was, but it was definitely unnerving. I was alone with a disabled vehicle. They eventually kept walking.

I can't say that, even if I had a gun I would have drawn in any of the above situations. But it's an option, and had my luck turned out to be shitty it's an option I would have liked to have.
