Two children, one in 1st grade, one in 4th grade exiting a school bus and were crossing the street with their grandfather, when an accused drunk driver passed the stopped school bus (the flashers on the bus where on to stop traffic) and struck at least 2 of the 3 people.

From what I heard, the grandfather saw the car coming, and was able to push one of the children out of the way. The child was pushed with enough force, when she landed in the ditch her leg broke. This is not in the news article, its the word going around town. The girl is visiting a local doctor for her broken leg.

The grandfather is in critical condition.

The other girl is in stable condition.

The drunk driver was arrested a little while later.

I have to admire the grandfather for trying to save his grandkids. If ever faced with a situation like what he was in, I hope I can do at least as much as he did.

I hope the grandfather and both the girls come out of this without life long scars or injuries.

What kind of person is drunk when school lets out (2-4pm)?

I'm glad that they're still alive, but I hope they make it.

I'll be keeping them in my thoughts as they're in critical condition.

Why the but?

I can't wait for the article that calls for gun turrets on top of school buses that shoot anyone that doesn't slow down when approaching said school bus.

I bet this isn't the drivers first offense. People that are drunk by noon are pretty common with alcoholics. They drink until they pass out at night and then as soon as they wake up reach for the bottle again. I knew someone that was so bad he would drink rubbing alcohol, seabreeze, anything with alcohol of any kind.

Asinine. And hardly. That's exactly the kind of bullshit people sue each other for these days.

This guy is a grandfather so probably not. If it was a TEACHER who saved the kid's life then yeah he'd be getting sued into the ground.

He'll probably get 4 years or so and be rehabilitated. Meanwhile some doper is serving the minimum 20 years for the bag of pot he had.

This should be considered attempted murder, but won't.

In Texas, DWI is not considered a felony until the 3rd offense.

I do not understand the exact details, but if a second crime is committed at the same time as a felony, then both crimes have a higher penalty.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, drunk driving needs to be a capital offense. Or at the very least the same punishment as carelessly waving a handgun and randomly firing. Its stupid, its dangerous and should never happen, not even once. If you are old enough and have the money to drink, you are old enough to know better and get a DD or taxi.

The kid's parents would be suing their own parents. I know the litigation society in American has gone out of control, but I've never seen something like that.

If it were a random good Samaritan they probably would though.

Well, my sister was killed by a drunk driver who left the scene but was later caught. He got the max of 5yrs but got out in 3.
So this guy will possibly get a slap on the wrist...
