Drunk Driver Faces Long Prison Sentence

story here

from the story:
Nutter's drunken driving led to several crashes, but no one was injured or killed. Her blood alcohol concentrations included 0.35 percent after a May 3 arrest, 0.41 percent after a May 28 arrest and 0.47 percent after an arrest the next day. The July reading was 0.29 percent.

drink much? she faces up to 37.5 years.
How many would you give her if you were the judge?
(keeping in mind she didn't seriously injure anyone or kill anyone, but did cause many crashes:according to the article)

i would give her the max.

not 37 years, but at least 1-5.

My brother lost his license due to drunk driving. 3, actually. He lost it in 1998, i wanna say, and sitll has not gotten it back. Drunk driving is nothing to mess with, and if you do it, you deserve to be punished.

repeat offender deserve a tougher sentence.... however, if no one got hurt, why should she be locked away for a few years when other hardcore criminals can walk free after a couple months?

if we're going by the book, i'd give her 2-3 years....

The fact that no one was injured is balanced out by the fact the she's done it, not once, not twice, FOUR times.

Sounds like she's already given up on the rest of her life, so I don't think it will matter to her whatever she gets. It's sad, but she endangered others' lives through her careless actions, and might very well continue to be a danger, so I personally think she should get a pretty hefty sentence.

<< the death of her son at the hands of a drunken driver and her own diagnosis, >>

How ironic it is that she herself has become the cause of her son's death.

Her story is a sad one, but I do not think leniency should be given because of the sheer number of times that she's been a drunk driver. The ones they mention are only the ones she's been caught on, there could be many others. It's a wonder she's not hurt of killed someone.

5 years then lots of rehab. also take away her liscense for good. we don't need pieces of s*** like this on the road.

6-12 months prison and manditory rehab for the next 10 years with irregular inspections, loss of divers lisence for 5 years. Braking this results in 1months prison and the 10 year rehab starts again and also the license thing.

Her mindset and thought process are the same whether or not someone dies. Either way, she has blatent disregard for the well being of others and she should serve as much time as allowable.

I started being severly harsh on drunk drivers after one with 20 years of DUIs (he was in the double digits in convictions) killed 4 girls from my University.

It was a famous trial because he was the first in the state tried for murder instead of DUI. I think he's in prison for life now.

I would have taken her license for several years after second offense and if she drove following that THEN give her prison time.

my company has just the product for her.

and that would be better and more cost efficient than a PBT breathalizer how?

-My Dad lost his father to a drunk driver on his 4th birthday. My grandmother went insane for a few years and my Dad's only sibling committed suidide as a result of this.
-Me and my parents were seriously injured by a drunk driver when I was two -- we nearly lost our lives.
-I also have lost three close friends to drunk drivers. I really have no sympathy for drunk drivers, especially repeat offenders.
-Drunk drivers know very well that they are capable/likely to kill or hurt others and should be treated as murderers or attempted murderers when caught.

If another drunk driver hurts someone I love, perhaps I will rip their heart out with my bare hands and then they won't have to worry about prison.

because it gets placed in the clients home and the client pays for the service, not the tax payer. Also Maricopa County is one of agencies we provide this service to.

wow, i was not aware of that! pretty cool...although you would need some sort of home arrest as well otherwise what is to stop you from just leaving and going on a binge, then driving drunk? but don't get me wrong...i love the idea. the client pays...that is a good thing.

I would not go for the long prison sentence. 37 years is excessive when someone that commits an armed robbery gets much less. I would, however, support an immediate and permanent ban on her priveledge to operate a motor vehicle. No need to tempt fate. Just because she hasn't killed someone yet does not mean she won't in the future (and then deserve life in prison). I am not big on jail terms for drunk drivers because they won't learn anything in jail. Remove their ability to get behind the wheel (and throw them in jail if they are caught behind the wheel whether drunk or not) and they will learn.

although you would need some sort of home arrest

we do that too. look at the bottom in the orange text. Bi 9000, home guard 200, if you ever watch Cops and see them run down a dude and they search him and find a ankle bracelet. that is our product.

i didn't look at the site enough to see that, but i do know what they are. i studied criminal justice for four years in college.

I think the states should impound and auction off the car of ANYONE caught DUI. How many people you know would take that chance if they knew their car would get taken away?

I think I once heard about a device that somehow connects to the ignition of a car... Evidently it's a breathalizer test that won't let you start your car if you don't pass. Anyone heard about this?

At first, after reading this I thought that the sentencing was too harsh. But now, I have a different perspective. At first I was going to say that she shouldn't be jailed. Rather, she should have her license taken away for a crazy amount of time like... 10 years say...But really, this WILL NOT WORK. Anyone can drive a car without a license.

We will never be able to stop her from driving unless shes segregated.

6-12 months prison! WTF? Why are lefties so soft on crime? Do you have to kill somebody before they'll bring down the hammer? :disgust:
