drums... WTF!?!!!!!

Son #1 is musically inclined. Plays guitar exceptionally well for a kid his age. Plays the saxophone exceptionally well. Took piano lessons for a while, but we couldn't afford at the time to support all three habits.

Now, he wants to learn to play the drums. He's got good rhythm... quite a bit of potential there. I just wish he'd play the same thing for more than 5 or 6 seconds without deciding to break into a solo of noise! This is going to drive me insane.

2 more weeks... 2 more weeks til we have an empty garage (moving soon... mine is completely packed full of stuff.)

now wtf... guitar is going AND the drums? Who's playing what downstairs?! How am I going to get my grad work done?!

and, the drumming sucks... rhythm is gone. Must be my wife is playing around with the drums too.

If only I had a mic on this computer... I could record this and play it back to you. Then, after I was hauled away to jail for terrorism I could relax and study.

not screwed for too long.... only 2 weeks (hopefully) til we have a garage. If this real estate deal falls through one more time, then I really AM screwed.

also, it wasn't my wife on the drums, it was son #2. Maybe, just maybe I'll have him take lessons.

wow, my wife just pointed out to me that this is the first time they've done something together for more than 5 minutes without fighting. They can't even play x-box together without fighting. 2 minutes into any game like Halo2 and all I can hear is "screen watcher!" "I'm not watching your screen" <muffled sound of controller hitting floor and one of them slugging the other one>

Maybe they should start a band. Call it "Satan's Afterbirth" with Tha Magenta Placenta on drums and Lucifer's Groan on the guitar.

hahaha had me LOLing for real

I'd love it if they formed a band.. then the rhythm wouldn't change every 10 seconds.. I can deal with noise... the fan on my processor has sounded like a leer jet approaching take-off speeds for a couple of weeks now. (I really should order a new one before this one dies and takes the processor with it)

It's constantly changing noises that's tough to deal with.

Like you'll actually be getting a garage this time...is this the 3rd house still? Or a 4th one?

😛

And yeah, you might want to get a new cpu fan. Have you given your fan an oil change yet?

Man, I wish I had gotten drums. Too bad the cheapest kit I could find was about 75-100 bucks more than I had. So I settled for bass and I like it a lot. I don't think I have the room for drums right now but rest assured, one day I will.

How old are your sons?

They're also really expensive. 😛
I know. That's why I don't have any. Instead, I play the old family piano that has several "problem keys" that are unfortunately some of the most popular keys in a few pieces that I like to play. 🙁

One of these days, I'm going to get an 88 key Studiologic controller (want a Triton or K2600XS, but that's not happening)... 😎

Anyway, what about a pair of these? 😀

13 and just about to turn 15. Drums are Tama's, he borrowed his friend's cymbals for a few days until his new set arrives. Got the set used for $350... really good deal on it. The cymbals would have been another 350, but we got them online for quite a bit less. As the day has progressed, the drums have gotten quieter. My younger son actually has some good rhythm. I may pay for lessons for him yet.

Get the practice pads, that's what they're for. He should only play drums in school or something. Or you could get the electronic synthesizer drums as someone suggested earlier.

3rd house still... hit a temporary snag (no financing - couldn't meet a "minor" condition in the mortgage committment letter... minor to me, major to them.) Found new financing and we're expecting the committment letter on Monday or Tuesday. Should be closing in around 2 weeks (hopefully)

And, thank you thank you thank you for that link! I didn't think that small fans like that would be serviceable. I had never given it a thought that I'd be able to lube it up - too many small things like that in my experience have been built with 1 lifetime in mind - no way to get inside/completely sealed in the manufacturing process.

Heh...I used to have a ghetto piano like that at home too. 😀

I'd love to have a nice 88 key synth as well, but I couldn't really justify the expense (for now anyway). I don't play/practice nearly as much as I want to, not to mention there's not a whole lot of space in this dorm room. 😛
