Of all the instruments in school bands, I think the one area that lacks the most is in percussion. The students, at least at the schools I'm familiar with, don't seem to be pushed to learn very much. Perhaps the biggest reason is that most school's bands are geared more toward symphonic music and such... thus, the percussion section consists of 10 students each with a number of very small roles: <drum roll on snare drum> oh-ohhh say can you seeeeeee <another student smashes cymbals together>

I know. That's why I don't have any. Instead, I play the old family piano that has several "problem keys" that are unfortunately some of the most popular keys in a few pieces that I like to play. 🙁

One of these days, I'm going to get an 88 key Studiologic controller (want a Triton or K2600XS, but that's not happening)... 😎

Not that I'm recommending trying this (my wife - gf at the time freaked out) but pianos are about as difficult to take apart and put back together as computers... it just takes a couple hours longer. I had no problem moving 2 or 3 problem keys to less problematic sites.

My son's band is over here.... watching the superbowl together. Paul McCartney got done, apparently the SB is boring, and now, there's a concert in my dining room. I'm trying to freakin study!!!!!

edit: They sound quite good though... their actual drummer is on drums, not my son... he's on guitar.

Are you kidding me? Wait till he sees marching band. In marching band, the percussion section puts in 2x more time than anyone else, mostly because they are the most important part of the band.

Our school isn't large enough to have a marching band.

Kids are playing wipe-out now... sounding good..... especially with a good drummer... 😀

I play guitar and drums!!! dude, by pads for the drums... and have you heard of unplugging the guitar??? it works!!! believe me... get pads and make them play with those or else something bad will happen, plus the pads protect the skins from tearing alot more, ive had the same skins for 7 years, no dents or nottthing, well their are dents, but not biiig...........
