Just spent 3 hours picking apples. That sucked. It's been raining all day, non-stop. I'd be up on the top of the ladder, tossing apples down onto a tarp (no apples off the ground - mice, etc.) and one of the front legs of the ladder would suddenly start sinking into the ground, causing the ladder to tip over in slow-motion. I was lucky I never fell out. Plus trudging through the orchard with shoulder high goldenrod that's soaking wet... I'm soaked to the bone. My knee-high rubber boots had 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of them, just from running down my legs. Wife didn't help, son didn't help, come January when I'm drinking cider, it's MINE MINE MINE!

edit: well, my wife just brought me a nice cup of hot chocolate, with lots of mini-marshmallows in it. She can have some cider.

This sounds quite comedic. You should go back out and film it. 🙂

You need one of these. 😀

Oh and there's nothing like the sound of a hit and miss engine.

Awesome! I've been trying to figure out a good way of spreading tarps on the ground. Sounds easy - and it would be if the entire ground wasn't covered (where I pick) with goldenrod and other brush. I had two 8x10 tarps with me tonight and it was still hard to make sure the apples fell onto the tarps as I picked them and dropped them.

A 40kW tractor should be plenty of power to do both shaking and powering the open/close hydraulics (or EHA) for the catcher.

I doubt you'd even need half of that power. If anything though, I should get a sickle bar mower for my tractor & mow down the orchard (not the trees) Then, it'd be easy. 🙂

Awwww, sweet. 🙂

damn that is cool. i want one of those presses. how much did you get yours for if did it come with the farm?

I picked it up for around $100. Incredible deal. I saw an identical one for $2500 at an antique shop. But, they seem to typically go for less than that.

1) Place pizzas in cider press
2) Turn wheel to grind up pizza
3) Turn press to extract juices
4) ???
5) Profit

Is this what you mean by profit?
