Droid X: The next Moto Droid phone for Verizon

Do you mind clarifying what you mean by that? I've been keeping up with 3 or 4 forums on the Droid X and the most recent topic of concern has been the likely encryption of the bootloader, leading to the possible inability to root the device. It seems that a lot of people (including me) have now reevaluated their intent to purchase the X due to the likelihood of not being able to attain root...so if you can provide any insight I'm sure many of us would be grateful.

The most prevalent example I'm hearing is the Milestone's lack of root after more than seven months on the market.

Thanks for your help.

What I mean is that if it can be accessed, by any means, it can be hacked.

If it was 100% secure, as in lock it up and throw away the key, phones wouldn't boot, Bluray player couldn't read disks, etc.

Milestone has root, but does not have custom roms as prevalent as other phones. They have locked it out to only have a digital encryption/key that comes from Motorola, thus making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get a rom to load on it. I believe they have gotten roms loaded by completely bypassing the bootloader.

And yes everything can be hacked, but if it takes months just to get one rom out, why even bother? Especially with Android's pace of development and OTA updates. There are plenty of other phones that you can load the custom roms.

^ Yea

the thing people are saying is that the Milestone isnt as popular as the Droid is.

So with the Dx time will tell, it sure will be popular.

This is exactly the reason why I would choose EVO over Droid X.

Battery life, Verizon, Processor/GPU are reasons I'd choose the X over the Evo

Same and I almost bought the EVO.

Also, after owning 2 HTC Android phones, I prefer Motorola's build quality much more. My Incredible just didn't feel durable enough.

My Eris and my coworkers Incredible don't feel cheap or anything but my Droid (and even old RZRs) feel a lot more sturdy and durable to me. My brothers girlfriend has a Devour and even though it is bulky and not the coolest phone, it still feels pretty solid.

So I agree 😛

HTC also has a few common sense touches that I wish Motorola would adopt.

How about a trackball for precision scrolling/selecting?

Or how about this one: physical send and end buttons for calling. Every phone I've ever owned has this; the Droid and Droid X do not.

Do you realize we are comparing the X and the Evo? The Evo (HTC) has neither physical send/end buttons OR a trackball...

^ Ill be there at 6am 😛

btw, if you dont want to pay 300 bucks, Bill the phone to your account, fill out the rebate and then apply it to your bill.

Master Chief has a Droid X?

He will on the 15th. :awe:

Anyway I've been reading some Twitter chatter from a dev saying that he/someone else may be very close to having the X fully hacked & unlocked. Guess we'll see in a few days how true all this is.

Can to share the Twitter name of the dev? That's something I want to follow. Closely.

I saw the same. Sounds promising. I'm getting the phone with the expectation that it will never be rooted and will never have the bootloader unlocked. Hopefully I won't get what I expect. LOL

Got a call from Best Buy saying they had mine ready to go tomorrow as soon as they open at 10 am 🙂 $200 no rebate required.

My first smart phone and first phone upgrade in 5 years coming from a LG VX8100.

i tried to order mine online, my problem is, my new every two is due 8/17/10. i can get a droid x right now for $199.00 but if I wait like 32 days, i can get it for $100.00 less. i'll try calling in see if they will do something manually to let me use my new every two early.

NE2 shows up as $50 credit for me. I have it available and my lowest price is $149 online. How do you have $100?

Anyway, I'm gonna have to play with this thing in-store. I wanted the ipad for throw-around web surfing on the couch but if this thing does it good enough then it's a better option given prices.
