another opinion

I truly wonder if the guy from driver heaven knows that a 6800 is different from a 6800 ultra

or maybe he has a messed up ultra.

Theres other D3D tests ot there where the 6800 ultra and the x800 xt PE are neck and neck, so how does the x800 get a 25 fps jump in one benchmark and then another shows only a 7 fps difference.

Ill wait for some more credible sources before making a purchase on either.

I also find those results very hard to believe. Driverheaven is usually very good with their reviews though. If this if right, expect a patch or new drivers fairly quickly that fix this. :beer:

So, is there any reason why they get 50fps @ 1600 1200 4xAA 16AF (6800U) with Athlon 64, while I get 55fps at the same settings using standard GT and P4 2.8C.

One word:

Bullshit :)

At 1600*1200 6xAA/16xAF the x800 xt is performing more then 65% higher then the 6800 ultra

Yeah, except 6800U using 8x FSAA, with supersampling.

Driverheaven GOOD with their reviews ? Common man ....

They ran X800 ( dont remeber which one Pro or XT ) against GT (or Ultra ) and left Ati's optimizations ON but turned nVidia's OFF and then ran then head to head. They's no better than Toms.

Actually I like Driverheaven alot. Friendly place without the non stop flame war going on here. If they made a mistake, than so be it. Toms Hardware is on my bad list, as I bought a geforce 2 mx on their reccomendation a few years ago. :eek: The 6800 ultra is a great card and will run HL2 well, but maybe like doom 3 - a bias is built into the game. These things will sort themselves out as others using the engine will want to sell games.

Its not like this is going to represent HL2's gameplay. Or that it wasnt CPU limited.

Ronn, i didnt mean to insult you or that site , but it seems like 2 benchmarking reviews done that i've read they somehow mess up. Just like Leon said , he gets with slower GFX and slower CPU better FPS then they've stated.

Sorry to compare them to Toms. That was low blow :)

I didn't feel insulted. I always defend driverheaven, as they have been extremely helpful to me on the forums. Anyways from reading other sites, it seems as if HL2 will run very well on both platforms (a major failure of doom 3). Those who have played cs source like it, so hopefully a very good game is coming soon. :beer:

someone at hardocp got very different results with their ultra -- people are questioning driver-heaven's methods.

im really not liking all these inconsistencies with benchmarks.....driver heaven are handing the crown to ATI when virtual zone shows a more equal/ cpu limited performance

im lookin to buy and 6800GT or an X800 and after lookin at xbits big grpahics card review i had decided on the 6800GT but i was still :S bout the SM2.0 performance, then i loook on firing squad and their benchmarks show the NV cards neck n neck with ATI

its stupid#

i mean look

driver heaven 16x12 4xaa and 8xaf @max detail the x800xt = 70+fps
6800U = 50fps

virtual zone 16x12 4xaa and 8xaf @max x800xt = 70+
6800U = 63 fps

whatever, I will buy games that run well on my system. Have played many opengl games and enjoyed them. I guess it is important to say that Nvidia is much better than ATI - but when it comes to buying games, my money talks as well as any. :beer:

Well , you cant go wrong with Nvidia this round. Ati's XT PE is next to impossible to find and PRo just doesnt cut it. I sold my 9800 Pro and went thru pain of reinstalling and removing all Ati's drivers and got myself GT. I wanted XT PE but Ati is just not releasing any cards. 6800 U seems like waste of time AND money , since they're ABOVE MSRP right now. GT overclockes past Ultras clock with ease , so how can you go wrong with GT. It's slam dunk this time around , just like 9800 Pro was year ago.

A viable alternative (and probably superior option) to the GT is a X800 VIVO with 1.6ns memory which can be easily modded into an XT PE with a simple BIOS flash and a couple of pencil strokes if necessary. And the XT PEs are out there you just have to be persistent. I got 11 in just last week.

Lol . I've decided to wait for some real benches. Too many different results.
As for Driver Heaven it's not like they're unbiased....They do have a past... :D

The HL2 benchmark shows a different picture. I wonder what is different about these benchmarks. I am happy I have the GT as it does the job very well. 53fps avg at 1600x1200 with all options on high in HL2? I will take it.

Someone needs to ask DH how a Athlon 64 3200+, with faster ram than I have, using a x800XT PE only beats my HL2 benchmark by 15fps at the highest resolution.

Driver-heaven is a joke of a review site. The reviews are totally ATI biased and their forums are filled with ATI fanboys. I think this was the same site known for turning NVIDIA's trilinear optimizations off but leaves ATI on (because you can't turn them off) and then calls the benchmarks equal. I don't even read their reviews anymore.

Thanks GG :beer: The only surprise to me is that the GT isn't getting owned by the pro in this title. Anyone who didn't think ATi would be the fastest in this title has been living in a fantasy world where Nalu, Dawn&Dusk all have sex with them ;) nV does claim to have drivers that will close the gap though. Regardless this is playing out precisely as some of us expected, except the GT being so close the pro is a pleasent surprise for me :) It basically cements the GT as the better overall price/performer than the pro.

that isn't another opinion, that is a compleatly different benchmark, and a stupid one at that as you can't rightly benchmark cards for average framerate when there is a framerate cap.

I have been feeling this way since last night. I wish you had the beta so I could see the numbers on your system. :p

When my 1600x1200 benchmark finished last night and I saw 53fps (Doom 3 type score anyone?), I knew HL2 was going to be a treat.
