I wouldn't trust their benchmarks. I ran the same test last night on my 3.2 prescott and 6800GT with everything set on the highest and got higher fps than the X800Xt. It's total BS. I'll run the same test and snap a pic when I get home and link it..
Is there a builtin CSS benchmark? I was under the impression that they ran a custom test with fraps.

Edit: Thnx rage. I know that vrzone used a fraps benchmark, it wasn't clear in the other 2 tests that they were using the built in one.

GG, they are not talking about CSS.

Last night Valve released a HL2 benchmark, thats what everyone is using now.

That's true..I forgot about that.. Both the benchmark and the game run like buttah on my system though and I don't plan on playing Doom 3, just Half Life 2 so I don't need nVidia and I am happy.

Shouldn't they have been comparing the X800XTPE to the 6800UEE?

Anyway, I'm still waiting for a review form a credible site and haven't decided myself between the GT and Pro.

Yes, they should have used the PE against the EE but of course they didn't bother.

Hmmm...I did the in game stress test...I dunno if that's the one they did...

looking good for the XTPE

it PISSES me off when reviewers don't mention that 8x is supersampling and takes a crapload more memory bandwidth than 6xmsaa

end rant

That's the only fair way to test Vshah! Each card's top setting! You can't get fairer than that!?!?!?

LOL it is BS

Oh well, so far looks like X800XT is the card for CSS.

Everyone go buy one!

Oh yeah, you can't. LOL

Most review sites don't have an EE. Besides, availability issues aside, the 6800 U and XTPE are both MSRP $500 cards.

I doubt it would have mattered anyway; the XTPE was beating the Ultra by a wide margin.

it's amazing i'm reading the same comments about the source benchmark that ati fans were making concerning doom3 for the last 2 weeks.

fanboys, regardless of alliance, are quick to declare victory or defeat by virtue of one game. while it's certainly possible the dh benches may have an ati slant, both cards are more than capable of playing it at reasonable settings, just as r420 plays d3 just fine. read everything and make your own choice; just because one card runs one game faster than the other doesn't mean these games can't be enjoyed on either.

both nv and ati offer great hardware this generation (beyond anything most of us thought possible 6 months ago). pick what you prefer and enjoy it. the concept is so simple, yet so many people fail to comprehend it.

This is the first time I have agreed w/ you completely.

Play the damn games and stop worrying about which one plays it faster, since at top setting they both play all games very well.

The stupidist thing I heard all week was someone saying 52.7fps in HL2 was "almost" playable.

If your that worried about a benchmark on a game that's not even released yet, wait for Anand to do a review.

I give Driverheaven as much credibility as HardOCP and Tom's...

In other words, none. DH and HOCP are blatant ATi fancamps, Tom's is seriously bent on Nvidia (although lately, they've seemed to just be retarded all around.)

I'll wait for some benches from Anand, Firingsquad, or Xbit before I give a crap.

Unfortunately, I am getting similar results as the people at Driverheaven are getting, but I know that they are not right. There has to be a bug, chipset, or driver issue that is causing my performance drop compared to an equivalent system of a different chipset. I am running an Athlon 64 3000+ on an MSI K8T800 FISR motherboard with 1 GB PC3200 OCZ ram and an eVGA 6800 GT. My fps at 1600x1200 with max settings and 4xAA and 8xAF were about 33. Changing to 6xAA (a mode nvidia doesn't support) boosted my FPS to 45, with some graphical glitches. Turning off AA completely didn't even give me that kind of performance boost, so I smell something fishy there, but it may have just been a freak occurance.

I noticed that Driverheaven was also using an MSI K8T motherboard with an Athlon 64 and this is making me think it may be a chipset issue. It seems that all P4's and Athlon XP's are getting great performance with the 6800's but not so with the Athlon 64's, at least with my chipset. Does anyone else have a similar setup to mine with similar results?

Come on, biased benchmarks are so easy to spot, the guy is a turd, I mean who tests at 1280x960 anyway? What a noOb. Anyway, Driverheaven is a well known "Heaven" for ATI fanboys, and the guy running it is a ATI fanboy.. One look at the general direction of the site tells you this.. Like the software articles: http://www.driverheaven.net/articles/

Lets see, half dozen articles pumping ATI, and some articles knocking down Nvidia, like their rediculous fabricated "3DMark2003 image" tests.. I mean duh, it doesn't take much to see they are fanboys...

DH Inside ATI Silicon Valley
"The One" Monster Rig (pumping ATI)
Catalyst 3.8
Macdaddy inside ATI HQ
ATi PCI-Express Preview
Farcry 1.2 Patch Investigation
Driver Article / Cat 4.7 / Omega / Unian
Counter Strike Source

and umm, the best they can have about Nvidia, is a article like this: " Geforce 6800 Ultra IQ investigations"

I'm sorry but if you can't smell biased there, then your nose is plugged, these guys have a 2 year history of distorting facts to pump up ATI, which probably sends them crates of free cards every year or something. As such, I fully discredit his testing, and would like to refer everyone to...

this: http://www.gamers-depot.com/hardware/video_cards/source/002.htm

and this: http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=1181

DH just needs to do us all a favor, and close up shop. He not only discredits himself, but makes ATI look bad.

oh yeah, they are the essence of unbiased reporting ;)

Beyond3d article titles:

"Nv causes cancer in school children"

"Nv supports terrorism"

"Ati, a cure for AIDS?"

ATI drops quite the ass kicking in HL2 tests so far.

Looks like the GT and x800 Pro will be about even and the GT might pull ahead a bit when the 65.xx series of drivers are used. The Ultra should matchup with the XT but using the PE isn't a good comparison for the Ultra.

Around 60 frames at 1600x1200 w/ 4xaa/8xaf with GT/Ultra. Good enough for me! Anything more is just gravy.
