McDonald's does this sometimes, I think it's not a bad idea, because if it's an order that will take long, at least they are doing what they can to keep people from having to wait. It's usually not that long either, maybe 5 minutes or so, and they bring the food out to you.

All drive thru services do this. In almost every restaurant the drive thru and to keep it moving takes precedence over everything else. You come in and order a Big Mac and then a drive thru dude orders one; chances are he gets the burger you should have.

yup, that was how it worked when I was at BK back in high school.

each station had a screen where order requests pop up on it.

anything for the drive-thru was top priority before anything else (after that, special request orders followed by whatever standard orders to replace what was taken from under the heat lamps)

I hate baiting you because it's so futile, but no, that's not really the case.

if you're ordering a burger and making 5 special requests with it, unless one of those requests is "fresh off the grill," it takes about 30 seconds to grab a plain burger from the warming tray and slap it together.

if you're ordering the most simple thing in the world but you're catching them at a bad time with none pre-made (perhaps, you're the 5th car in the drive thu and every car before you was ordering chicken nuggets too), you're SOL and waiting.

/former fast food worker 🙁

I don't see where this is baiting????

Anyhow. I'd imagine the latter case is very rare or the restaurant is entirely clueless.

what are they gonna do? they'll ask you nicely, but that's it.

of course, if the guy behind you gets out and takes a baseball bat to your windshield, well... :whiste:

I might have to try this, I need a new windshield anyhow, it has a crack.

One time I was at Der Weinerschnitzel and they came out a door they have right at the register for drive through orders, took my money, gave me my food before the person waiting at the window ahead of me. They also cant really make someone go park at this location due to the design of the restaurant. So I got to start eating while still stuck there.
I also went to In N Out one time and was stuck waiting for someone at the window for about 20 minutes. They placed a huge order, in this case they should of made them go inside, I was fucking pissed.

I wish they would have a no special order drive through with a very limited menu. It would be interesting to see if that would really speed things up.

I am older so I remember when McD's only had about 5 hamburger choices and French fries and drinks. Not much else to get in the way.

Big Mac
Quarter Pounder
Quarter Pounder with cheese
regular hamburger
Filet o fish
That was about it.

I recalled getting through the drive through pretty quick in those days. However they also had the food warmers. They would precook a bunch of burgers and they would sit under the heat lamps. But I still end up getting cold burgers today. The burgers are precooked and sit in a warming bin until your burger is made. The only thing better now is your lettuce tomato and pickles don't get warm and wilted.

I usually order a special order so have to par (can't stand ketchup on a burger). Worst places though for having you park is culvers. i like the burgers though since they are made fresh.

Burger King back in the days, hold the pickle, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us, all we ask is that you let us serve it your way.

If they're asking you to park because you asked for fewer pickles, something is very wrong.

Something is wrong if they ask anyone to park IMHO, unless like I stated with In N Out. You are there first, you should be served first, unless you are going to make the wait insanely long for people behind you.

The up selling bothers me more, would you like a drink? Did I order a fucking drink?

yeah i hate that IF i wanted a crappy soda i would ask for one. glad McDonalds stopped the "would you like to super size that"

though i admit McDonalds fries are good.

Carl's Jr seems to be the worst. Order a burger, they ask if you want to make it a combo. After saying no, would you like a drink, after saying no, will there be anything else, after saying no, would you like any cookies or dessert, order cancelled and I drove away.
