Here's another good story. I got our of rehab a little over 6 months ago, and one of the counselors there was a competitive distance runner at the height of his drinking career. He'd drink at least a case of beer a day and on the weekends he'd throw in some hard liqs for good measure.

He had liver failure at 40 and is alive today only because he received a liver transplant.

Moral of the story: not all alcoholics are covered in shit and wandering under the bridge talking to themselves.

That is a good story. I can't wait to see how it ends. I hope it's not a cliched ending that involves Cirrhosis of the liver like most similar stories.

define heavily. heavily for me means 3 bottles of wine or 12-15 beers a night.

I do 24-36 in a day sometimes :)

Many many people I have encountered think it's cool to say they are alcoholics or drink heavy...I have found more often than not they are just sippers or think 3-4 beers a night is HEAVY drinking due to reading it is.

I made a deal with my wife that I only keep it to weekends and holidays. She doesn't drink at all. It's sort of a compromise we made.

I drink alone every day and have for the past 15 years. One or two tequilas in the morning, every morning. To me, your question would be the same as asking a coffee drinker why drink coffee alone?

they can't now. there are new rules for addicts and drunks that pushes them to the back of the line. he received his transplant in 1990 i believe. the rules we have now didn't exist then.

AFAIK an alcoholic never qualified for liver transplants if others were in line. Today it's mostly the wealthier baby boomer that have made it more align with them.

I say put the livers on the open market, those that are too poor to afford one shouldn't have been drinking in the first place nor had shitty genetics to begin with.

I enjoy a beer, so I will drink alone from time to time. I probably would all the time if it were less expensive.

Same here. Good beer is amazing, even if you only have two of them.

I enjoy a few beers at home. You don't have to worry about driving anywhere, you have full access to the net, games, etc.

Weed is more of a drug to enjoy alone, not alcohol. I've never drank alone but smoke alone when all of my friends are busy. Another thing, the only good environment for being drunk is at a party, whereas weed is also enjoyable at home.

Says you.

Says anyone who likes to smoke on a regular basis. Most people know that weed != alcohol in any way except the fact that your state of mind is altered. Alcohol is a party drug, weed is a relaxation drug (although they're not mutually exclusive).

I felt that way when I was younger. Now that I'm older, I'd almost rather feel relaxed from 2 glasses of wine over being stoned on even a half joint. At least with two glasses of wine I can read a couple chapters of a novel and still remember it in the morning.

I'm drinking a Budweiser American Ale right now.
It's pretty damn good, especially for the 6.99/6pk price.

I normally don't really drink anything on weeknights, just because I try and stay keep myself well hydrated. But I've been just doing a beer or two for the past few nights, as I've been trying different things. First trial was the Sam Adams Octoberfest. It's pretty good, but for 9ish/6pk, I won't be buying it again when the American Ale is available for a few bucks cheaper. And I like the Ale better.

I like drinking around people because you get really relaxed and you can talk to people, unlike drinking alone.

One of my favorite past times for a lazy sunday afternoon is to spends some time on a porch with a good book, a decent cigar, and some excellent dark beer, preferably a porter. I usually stop at 4, because it becomes hard to read after that.
