well amc, i can actually respect that response because you didnt just throw out "they suck ass". DT "is" music, but I can say that you are right. I'm pretty damn good at guitar (not the best) but my enjoyment from DT is keeping up with them. It keeps me on my toes and pushes my talents and techniques. Now when I sit down to write music, its nothing like DT. I can put soul into my music, and so true, that is something I feel is looked over by the band for sake of technical showmanship. But that is why I listen to them.
Regardless, I find most of their music fun to listen to. I absolutely love Victor Wooten, but I must say, alot of the stuff I like of his is on the showmanship, techie side of things, not necessarily the groove stuff. But I do love it when him and CB from DMB work together.
Crap metal riffs in 9/8, i agree, I have heard alot of this in some of the nu-metal where they are trying to be Math-metal. Most the time, it does not go over very well, and the time changes are very abrubt. This is why I like DT, because they can make odd changes flow through without grinding.
