Dragonball Xenoverse

So, this just came out and it is actually looking pretty good. Unlike pretty much every other Dragonball game, this one seems to not suck. The people I've talked with that have it are saying it is worth it. So, if you like Dragonball, online games, or campy fighters, this might be worth checking out.

I'll be picking it up this weekend and will chime back in with how I feel.

I'd consider it, but $40 is more than I'd pay for a fighter. I'm just not a big fan of the genre, so I play it in short stints on rare occasions. I played DB: Raging Blast on the 360 for a while, but didn't even bother finishing the campaign. I might get it at $30, since Best Buy's GCU would make it $25 or so (after tax). The near-future stuff is probably going to be Nintendo (Mario Party 10 and Yoshi's Woolly World).

It isn't exactly a fighting game. It looks like more of a action adventure / hack n slash style game, but with a fight game engine.

Actually ended up getting this last night rather than waiting and it is pretty good. The controls are pretty good and the combos are smooth. If you're a fan of the Dragonball series, it is worth a shot.

Has both an online and and offline mode that are very similar and you can play missions as your favorite characters, along with your created character.

The graphics are pretty good for cell shading and the feel of an anime is really there.

I'll have to check it out, maybe another game I can add to my xbox one. If its not a fighting game, is it more of an action/platformer with fighting elements?

I'm tempted to pick this up for the PC. Is it mostly about single player or multi-player?

My Xbox Live ran out so I can't comment on how online it is, but from the looks of it, it seems as if there is a complete offline story mode that takes you through the story and an online / offline lobby style mode. You are in the starter city and accept missions, either in offline or online mode and participate like that. There is also battle mode and tournaments, but I haven't tried those yet.

It looks like the missions are up to 3 players each right now (if you're offline, you can bring in up to 2 NPCs of your choosing, that you've unlocked - btw, I've been told Broly is OP, but Omega Shenron isn't in the game yet to beat him).

It is more of an action-rgp / hack n slash type of game. It is sort of a mix between a DMC / Ninja Gaiden game and a musuo, but focusing more on singular combat. It just happens to utilized the SF engine, so the fighting isn't as clunky. I would imagine the battle mode is more fighting game esque, but I haven't tried that yet.

I reallly want this game, but I think I'll pass until it is $34 or $29...unless the reviews coming in are stellar. I haven't paid $40 or $50 for a game in a long time.

Well I bought it on steam, didn't want to fork over $10.00 extra lol

This is an....interesting game. The 1 v 1 battles are awesome. The group battles are...a cluster **REMOVED**! The controls are thankfully not overly complicated, but this is going to take some time to master. I absolutely love being able to throw a good combo and then throw a deadly finisher on top of it, feels very DBZ like in that regard. Sure, you can punch your way to success, but when you win in a very artistic way it is much more satisfying.

Anyway, a fun game. Not sure it's worth $60.

No cursing in CG.

So, the online is getting hammered. I am forced to go offline and play just the story. Otherwise, it is pretty good. Unfortunately, I screwed up my character and my only options are to beat the game to unlock another slot, start over, or find all 7 dragon balls to wish for a reset. =(

Oh, and if any of you guys are having trouble with a mission, go into the time vault and replay the final missions of the previous saga to grind out tons of XP and Zeni. They are almost always 1v1 fights and really quick to do.

So, this is more like Guardian Heros, that awesome Saturn classic?

If so, I'm def. interested.

Can't say I ever played Guardian Heroes, but the description sounds a lot like it. This is really a lobby based MMO type of game. You go on missions from a hub (online or offline) and collect items + level your character. There is a single player story, and it is surprisingly good (if you like Dragon Ball), but where the game shines is the controls and overall fighting engine.

Also, guys, if your first character is terrible, don't worry about deleting and starting over. You retain all your money, items, and progress if you do this. You then only have to power level to where you want to be and the time vault is amazing for that. There are missions where you fight a single guy with a computer partner and they do most of the work. Goku vs Frieza is a good example. Goku is super aggressive and he just wrecks Frieza with or without your help.

Game was sold out at my closest GameStop :awe: Went to another place that sells games and I got the very last copy for my PS4 :awe: :awe:

Played it for like an hour. I don't know... the hub feels weird to me, but the first battles were cool 🙂 Obviously made a Saiyan :awe: Just got my scouter! "Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?" Err, nevermind, I'll shut up now 😛

The hub is...well...I don't know how to explain it. It is basically an interactive menu from my perspective. It's interactivity is nearly worthless...but visually appealing. I'd much rather just have a 2d popup menu that lets me choose between multiplayer/singleplayer/campaign options.

Eh, it seems normal for a "mmo" esque type of game. Like, you can go in a single or multiplayer lobby, but the difference is one has morons spamming text and the other doesn't. Both offer access to the online portions of the game IIRC.

And wow, Buu's skills are mega OP. I got both his super and ultra attack and with super saiyen they are ridiculous. Super Saiyen transformation is OP as it is, but these make it incredibly easy. SSJ drains your Ki continuously, but no skills cost Ki and you can use a charging skill to keep it up. You can literally spam ultras, especially if you have a soul that charges Ki (like Krillen's) on battle start up.

Played it more yesterday. I'm getting the hang of it and really liking the game! Hub feels ok now.

I'm still learning how to properly use block and evasion though. But the battles are really fun, even when I repeat them trying to get all the rewards 😀

So, the servers are still incredibly garbage. Thankfully, most of the game is available offline (yay!). Still having a blast doing missions. And Broly is OP as a sidekick.

I watched a review of the game, and one thing that made me cringe was that they didn't learn from Peter Molyneux's Fable 3. Sure, the city looks nice, but it doesn't mean I want to virtually run around to perform the same action that I could do by hitting a button on the d-pad to select a new menu option.

Fable 3 isn't the first game to have a "lobby" where you can stand around and talk to other people before walking to a menu and it won't be the last. It is an easy starting point for lobbied multiplayer. What is the point of creating a character to never see it rendered in full glory? The game would have really suffered if it was simply a bunch of menu options, especially in the social aspect.

...you can still render the character and place him somewhere on the screen while in menus?

...and how is that? Is there really something that couldn't have been implemented with a faster, menu-based setup? Do I really need to see all the people running around that I don't care about?

Loses a lot of the effect, IMO.

It becomes less of an RPG where you have a town you get missions to complete and more of a matchmaking menu driven game. That might work in something like COD, but I don't think it translates into a game like this. Imagine if Guild Wars or Phantasy Star Online were just menu driven. It could easily be done, and might be "faster", but you lose a lot of the feeling.

That doesn't seem right. I'm thinking of something like Borderlands 2 where it shows the character on the screen in the menu (where appropriate). If you really just care about seeing your unique character all up close and personal, that would certainly do that a lot better than some silly world where you're at a relatively distant, third-person perspective.

I don't think it's fair to compare a game that isn't a MMO to MMOs in an attempt to make it sound like some sort of overworld is a necessity. Sure, it makes you feel like you're in a town in the Dragon Ball universe, which may be fun for a bit, but what about when the novelty wears off? If the gaming world followed your mentality, I'd still have to go up to Ashenvale in World of WarCraft just to queue for Warsong Gulch! Why? Because menus ruin "the feeling"!

Honestly, I'd probably be okay with the city thing if it had a more expansive world, which goes along with the MMO mentality... or really just a RPG mentality... but it doesn't.

Looks pretty good, I will have to try the unofficial demo to see if I like it. I wonder if I can make my PS3 controller work without too many complications on the PC. Don't like the excessive cell shading too much.
