Ok, I have been recently finishing off a bunch of games that I never got around to. Well, I received a few Gamestop gift cards so I picked up two more games.

I picked these two up.....

And I already had ......

Which would you start with ? Dragon Age or The Witcher ? Regardless of which one I start, Id want to finish it and the 2nd one before I started the other.

The Witcher was shorter than anything? Wow. My first time I spent like 87 hours in it, and definitely didn't do everything. (I found a LOT on my second run-through).

Biggest thing is that the Witcher has a really slow start. Like, painfully slow. Have to spend 8 hours before it really become interesting.

If you don't have the time to rush through the beginning, you might put it down and not pick it back up again, so if you don't have the time, do DA:O now, and wait until you have a big, free weekend to start the Witcher.

the witcher sucks (we have a thread about that). play DA:O and then play BG2 for good measure.

I tried The Witcher for about 4 hours, it was ridiculously shitty.

DA:O was one of the best games I've ever played.

Your call.

The Witcher is among the worst games of all-time, so the choice is clear. Unfortunately DA2 is not as hot as the original, but still light years ahead of the Witcher. What horrid game that was.

Don't trust the haters on the Witcher, especially when they haven't finished it. Only a lesser mind can't endure the first few hours, whereupon the game gets much, much better. It's in my top 5 (Although I WOULD place DA:O higher).

The Witcher is very good, but apparently some people dislike it for whatever odd reasons. It's their loss, but it shouldn't be yours.

The Witcher is overhyped, plays like an improved Fable. Do not play it expecting another NeverWinter Nights Hordes of the Underdark or Neverwinter Nights 2.

Go with a real Bioware title.

I enjoyed The Witcher quite a bit, I also enjoyed DA:O. Both are different types of enjoyment.

The Witcher is a great game if you go in with an open mind. People that read all of the hype and expected it to be the best game they've ever played were sadly disappointed, but people that simply played it just to spend some time playing video games seemed to greatly enjoy it. I fit in the second category. My only real complaint about the game is the very slow start, but once you get into the second chapter (act?), it picks up nicely and is very hard to put down.

DA:O was very interesting, but didn't hold my attention quite as well. In this case, though, I think I fell for the hype at the time. :(

Even BG / BG2 / Deus Ex / KOTOR / <insert other godly title> can be disappointing if you hype yourself up for it. If you go in expecting it to be the best game ever in every way, every little imperfection will seem glaringly bad. If you go in just expecting to play a fun game, you'll quickly find yourself immersed and enjoying your stay. Hell, I even put down Bioshock and Mass Effect simply because I got bored. I need to pick those up again at some point...

I got bored of Dragon Age a 1/4 of the way through. Just didn't hold my attention which sucks cus I was really hoping to like it and I spent more money on the damn Collector's Edition too.

Same. As a matter of fact, I think I played The Witcher even less. Sucks, because I really wanted a fun RPG to play, but both didn't excite me at all. I've heard that The Witcher gets better after a while, but I couldn't get past the extreme tedium and rough edges of it. I utterly loathed the combat and on-rails feeling of DAO.

Fwiw I've enjoyed most of the Bethesda games, but I think I must be one of the extremely few that's had basically zero techincal problems with them, it seems many people experience crashing in their titles.

Personally I think both are great games,in the end only you can decide if you like them, btw don't listen to any person here since we all have different tastes etc...

I will say both The Witcher and DAO are far better then DA2 which is way below Bioware's standard IMHO.

I hope you enjoy them both :).

Well, I decided to start Dragon Age Origins. Pretty good so far, for what I have seen of it. So can't give a full opinion yet. But I just made my way to the top of the tower and lit the beacon.

I know, thats barely after the game opens up, but I will get there. :)

By the way, Does Dragon Age work with a 360 controller ? I think it would be even better with it.

IMO, The Witcher is fantastic (mainly for it's narrative, characters, and varied universe). People who say otherwise are usually kids who haven't played a real, good RPG. Dragon Age is kind of a more boring "generic fantasy world" type game that's much more diluted and lame.

And no, as far as I'm concerned there's no native gamepad support for DA.

The Witcher is the clunkiest game I've ever played. After about 10 minutes I deleted it.

But if you like controlling Julian Assange running around holding a sword up in the air like an idiot, go for it.

I also got bored and lost interest during chapter 1 of the Witcher. But I have just recently gone back and started playing it again and plowed through to chapter 2. It does seem to be picking up now.

DA:O I stopped about 8 hours in and haven't gone back.

The Witcher is one game that could actually benefit from some "streamlining", which hopefully the sequel will accomplish. I stopped in the middle of act 2.

that's not true. just look at all the people who replied to this thread, i bet none of them fits the description. what you're describing are FPS gamers :)

lets compare TW fighting to DA fighting:

TW: draw sword, click, wait for pointer to become red, click, wait for pointer to become red, click, repeat until brain commits suicide.

DA: pause the game, set up the tactics for each other party member you don't control, spot the group of enemies in the distance and prepare an AoE spell to lure the ones who don't die in the first wave, storm then with your tank, pausing every once in a while to reassign targets and button mash your favorite skill until they all die.

you get the idea. you can also replace DA with any party based RPG (except maybe DA2 which i haven't played yet)
