I would have to chose DAO. The story is more intense the the interaction you do between the chars is nice.
But between DA 2 and The Witcher... that's another story

that's not true. just look at all the people who replied to this thread, i bet none of them fits the description. what you're describing are FPS gamers :)

lets compare TW fighting to DA fighting:

TW: draw sword, click, wait for pointer to become red, click, wait for pointer to become red, click, repeat until brain commits suicide.

DA: pause the game, set up the tactics for each other party member you don't control, spot the group of enemies in the distance and prepare an AoE spell to lure the ones who don't die in the first wave, storm then with your tank, pausing every once in a while to reassign targets and button mash your favorite skill until they all die.

you get the idea. you can also replace DA with any party based RPG (except maybe DA2 which i haven't played yet)

that's because that play style is inherent to a party-based RPG.

witcher: craft potions for battle, drink said potions (but wait, you can only drink so many before you die, limiting what you can do during battle), select appropriate fighting style (you may need to switch between multiple during combat) and use skills as appropriately.

as much of a clickfest as the witcher is, there is more depth to its combat than people give it credit for. i haven't played it on the hardest setting, which supposedly requires use of potions otherwise you'll get pwnd (or so the description says)

I put 120 hours into DAO + Awakening and enjoyed it all. I put 20 hours into Witcher and got the better part of the way through the second act before I pretty much gave up; Witcher is plagued by a horrible camera, animations that make the shitty controls feel even worse than they are, and the story seems very roundabout and droll.

I've played a lot of DA:O but am at the point where it's like pulling teeth to keep going. I still have the dwarven place to travel to but now I have a journal of side-quests to visit all these old places just to turn something in. I'm just...bored, I guess.

I recently started up The Witcher again and am enjoying it very much once again, trying out different choices. I don't understand everyone's complaint about the camera and controls; there are two camera options - 3rd person and a sort of isometric version. I didn't enjoy the isometric one but 3rd person works like a charm. I've never had any problems with the animations, and the controls feel pretty natural to me - wasd, top buttons for weapon choice (usually Q), numbers for your spell to cast, etc... and if for any reason you get a little flustered, you can always pause for a quick regrouping and plan out your fingerwork.

Those that have played it through the first 10 minutes or "a little bit into act 1" have no right to judge it. That's like watching the opening sequence of a movie, walking out of it, and then telling everyone you thought it was a shitty movie.

The Witcher can require every bit of strategy as DA:O if you're not playing on baby difficulty. Sure, on easier difficulty and in the first area you can make it through by clickity click click, but play it on a harder difficulty or later into the game and you realize that the fighting style you've chosen and when you use it in fights matter, whether or not you decide to switch to your torch to try and apply a dot vs doing direct damage, what and when you decide to drink potions vs your toxicity level, and how you build out your character all matter. Those that figure it to be nothing but a click-fest haven't played the game appropriately. Also, the actual story is far more interesting and unique than the LOTR rip-off that DA:O is.

If you could'nt tell, I'd recommend The Witcher.

Oh, and the sex cards.

RE The Witcher:

I'd like to hear from anyone who made it past The Beast with click-click-click. . . Seeing as he shows up really early in the game, I'm pretty sure anyone that has called the game click-click-click hasn't put in more than a few hours on it.

Exactly what I stated :)

They're both good games, it just comes down to personal opinion. My opinion is that DA:O is one of (if not, the) best true RPG games since BG II and Neverwinter Nights. Witcher is a different type of game, but still good.

I enjoyed the combat in The Witcher. I did install this (recommended by a friend) combat enhancement mod which really increased the default difficulty and some balance tweaks.

From start to finish, one of my favorite RPGs. Just an overall awesome atmosphere.

Sure, the combat isn't its strongest point, but I'd still say it's better and more challenging than DA.

I like the graphics in both games. However I have come to the conclusion that sword games are kinda sucky in general. Give me a gravity gun or a SPAS 12. The sword thing is hokey. Heck even modern weapons can use screens like video games. Swords are kinda weird in computer games. They feel like square pegs being anti-aliased into round holes

The Witcher, I find it to be very mysterious. I think what got me to continue playing game was the feeling of someone dropping you off in the Witcher's world and then tells you that you're on your own buddy. Dragon Age had all that Whoa! Whoa! typical BioWare OMG!! LOTR!! Whoa! feel! :awe:
