I like to micromanage too (re: starcraft, baldur's gate, heck most party-based RPGs), but Dragon Age's tactics system is downright stupid. I select my character to go here and attack this person, and the second I pick another character the first one goes right back to trying to smack a darkspawn with her daggers as a mage. My rogue detects a bunch of traps, and instead of telling my party to stop, of course they run through all of them - trip wires, bear teeth, flame traps, everything. I ask Leliana to go defuse a trap and then tell Morrigan to throw a fireball here - oh look, Leliana's "duh=hur, here's a darkspawn! lets play! *runs through trap*" Then I try to make Alistair sit back and not run through the freakin FIRE TRAP that was set up by the storyline, until I realize I can't do it without babysitting his stupid ass the entire time or telling my entire party to stop moving - but when I do that, Alistair won't attack ANYONE who isn't shoving their butt in his face, even if they're an arm's length away.
