dragons have 2 or 3 hitboxes all around them. It's pretty easy in my experience to hit them, regardless of how many mele toons you have fighting them. Only issue is the knokback and their flying about, but I always have and use distance closing abilities.

Just a follow up on this. I just got done with doing the Storm Coast dragon. I did it as a melee rogue, with a shield warrior, KE and Archer. The fight was manageable, until the final ~30%, at which point the dragon would not let melee hit him. Once they hit him a couple times, he'd spin and knock everyone down, or fly off to another spot. It was one of the most frustrating fights I've done. While I did beat it, that least 30% was painfully slow, because my melee damage dealers were not allow to fight the last bit hardly. I'd get in a couple shots here and there, and it was off.

Been playing it for 3 weeks so I can't believe I didn't think to say this before, but the character select screen is extremely consolized. Whereas a mouse would be capable of just quick clicking 3 consecutive members, you have to scroll through them and select or not.

Small detail but probably something they left as-is from the primary development platform - console.

So there's at least three patches coming, confirmed during a Twitch TV stream. Just skip at 1:20 minute.

Essentially...

Patch #1 will soon be released, testing done.
Patch #2 is being tested (Q&A phase).
Patch #3 currently being worked on by the team.

That's cool, I hope that the first one will include a Mute Microphone feature for MP (at least that, don't mind if it takes longer for Push-to-Talk, I just want Muting for now).

THere are at least a couple of dragons that do the lightning ring attacks. I killed both of them. In reality, high DPS characters against dragons isn't the best. It's slow and steady wins the race against them. My two handed guy was getting hurt big time because he simply lacked the defence needed to stay alive. Cassandra on the other hand would barely get a scratch and it was her that was carrying me through the dragon fights. I think a good dragon killing party is...

Your guy (preferably a tank build)
Cassandra (full on tank build and she was just soak up anything, let the AI handle her)
Varric (ranged attack, he can hit for huge amounts of damage, especially with his focus ability. I ended up controlling him most of the time during dragon fights as the AI sucks using him well)
Mage with buffs (barrier is a must, a mage that does spirit damage is useful too as many dragons are vulnerable to spirit)

(Also regen potions are very useful and remember to upgrade them)

IMO one of the easiest dragons to fight is the one in Crestwood. It's lowish level and doesn't move around as much.

When I took the reaver specialization, I had to redo a lot of the Inquisitor's gear to compensate for the lack of shield. She was getting ripped to shreds because of the lack of defense in a 2h build.

For each of my dragon fights, I've had to leave the rogues at home. They either die in the opening few seconds or just suck down the healing potions. The limited healing potions are better served for the mages or tanks. In each fight, I've taken two warriors and two mages. Usually myself and Iron Bull as the tanks, with Solas or Dorian/Viv depending on the dragon's abilities. I've heard people say the Knight Enchanter class is way overpowered and that they can solo a dragon . . . but I'm not seeing that. At least, under AI control, Viv gets flattened far quicker than Solas. At higher levels, my warriors can all generate guard easily and the AI can manage that while I bounce between the mages to dish it out.

Really not a fan of this combat system though. Its heavily action oriented.

Origin is telling me that I've got ~55hrs into the game now, and I'll say that the story isn't as tight as previous DA games due to the open world. The majority of quests are collection quests; Go to Location A, Collect X# of Item Y, Return to Location A or B. That covers 95% of the quests. Not exactly memorable compared to the quests in even DA2.

Well congrats to Sera, she actually managed to piss me off. Not even Jack from Mass Effect 2 managed to piss me off like this. Jack had suffered from abuse, so I empathized with her attitude. Sera...she's just a nincompoop with a chip on her shoulder. If she and your contacts weren't valuable (and I wasn't worried about her starting to work against the Inquisition) she'd be tossed right out of Skyhold.

You do not get in the way of me choosing all the Investigate options before making a decision in a BioWare game. :colbert:

She's definitely a Chaotic Neutral character. I don't think I'll be able to romance her successfully because her approval is so difficult to build while also trying to build the Inquisition.

I don't know, how would you feel if your contact was just murdered in front of your eyes and your leader decided to negotiate?

Well, I'll be sure to come back and see what you're telling me in a spoiler tag once I finish the game!

Cassandra is just fine for me on the romance side of things.

I played a ton this weekend and am now 45 hours in, level 11 and... still not finished with the Hinterlands! I thought I'd seen most of the map but I just stumbled upon a friggin' dragon, got him down to 30% health before everyone died. My armor was way underleveled though so I just went and crafted some tier 2 armor with a little fire protection baked in so I'm pretty sure I should be able to handle the dragon this time... unless they have some crazy mechanics when they get to low health. :)

Strangely enough, in an effort to get my other party members to level 11 I stumbled upon the mountain villa and a key to Valamar, which is apparently a pretty sizable dungeon, heh. The Hinterlands is absurdly huge, I love it.

I also double checked the "Close the Rift Once and for All" mission and it's recommended for levels 8-11 so I shouldn't be over-leveled for it. Doing that after finishing Valamar and taking down the Fereldan Frostback. :)

Some of the dragons do get a bit skittish when they are low enough on health.

Not if you are Dalish and follow the Dalish pantheon over Andraste and the Maker. :)

I am a very pious Andrastian who is humbled that the Bride of the Maker chose him for this important task, thank you very much. :colbert:

The last 2 are not very big spoilers. Very minor.

Even so, I don't want to risk it. I'll be back for them when I'm finished with the game. ;)

I was going to back to him soon, as I think I'm about the proper level...maybe overleveled a bit.

I did notice what you mentioned about AI mele toons. The most recent two fights, I started paying attention to Bull, and noticed he was just walking in circles and never doing a damn thing. I would switch to him from time to time to pop certain skills, and after wondering why he was never on cooldown with anything, I started paying attention to what he was up to...not a damn thing. Cassandra and Blackwall, on the other hand, are generally quite busy throughout those fights. I wonder if it's just an Iron Bull or even 2-handed skill set that has broken AI?

That whole thing was broken for me.

dude was murdered, and there was no one to talk to, we just sat there and run around. I reset and did the quest over, same thing. I assumed her quest was just...that. Either way, whatever happened didn't really spoil my attempt to sex her up.

...well, except for my inadvertent romancing of Blackwall, that I wasn't exactly aiming for, but that took off and locked my out of Sera, for a bit
speaking of--does the big Blackwall twist and storyline happen if you don't romance him? Does he just randomly disappear and reappear like that if you simply finish his main quest?

Dual wield rogue is also problematic.

However, if you stay out of tactical mode, and manually attack, you can hit reasonably well. Just make sure to move to where ever the target is, so you aren't just swinging at the air. Basically, I have one tank melee, and I can play my main toon as melee, but anything else, I choose ranged attackers. I've been using Vivienne at ranged, and if a mob pops guard, I have her attack with spirit blade and Cassandra hits with her shield bash.

You have to talk to him, as far as I'm aware, but no romancing is needed. Not all interaction, even if good, is considered romancing.

there was no one to talk to, though. We pop into quest, walk a few feet, some dude ambushes and we autoattack and kill him, then there is nothing else to do.
That whole thing happened in about 15 seconds, and then I spend the next 15 or so minutes running around that small part of the map trying to figure out what to do next.

No one else around, nothing, Sera says nothing, I say nothing. You're in this trapped part of the map, and essentially have to waypoint to a camp near the exit and actually walk out of the map to get back to Skyhold.

If there was an NPC that I need to talk to after that, they ran off or just disappeared on me.

I think you glitched then. There should have been a well dressed nobleman standing next to the street sign. I gave full support to Sera and it was funny as hell. :)
