If that information is accurate, then there is a lot to look forward to in the new DA. However, Bioware does have a newly gained reputation for over promising and under-delivering (Tons of totally different endings for Mass Effect 3!)

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hey, at least they aren't Peter Molyneux.

Oh yeah better cover my ass:

Over Promising and Under Delivering is a registered trademark of Peter Molyneux and everything he has ever made.

looking forward to it, but I was also in the minority that didn't hate DA2 (granted, I also played it on a console, which I felt it was probably more designed for than PC gaming)... didn't love it, but I didn't feel like I wasted money on it.

still, Bioware's definitely lost that trust where I would have preordered a new Bioware game based purely on the developers... I'll read reviews with an open mind and hope to be convinced to buy it.

I highly doubt you'll see anything like NWN had. You'll be lucky to see a toolset.

Exactly. If they are going to include that kind of functionality, they will try to make a MMO out of it and milk you for either a monthly fee or micro-transactions. Look what Bioware/EA did to the KOTOR franchise.

I agree that there will be no more pre-orders from Bioware for me, and even more, I seriously doubt I will buy any more Bioware games before they go on deep discounts. Have to make up somewhere the money I wasted when I paid full price for ME3.

Every single example we have of EA buying up franchises like this, franchises which start with fantastic old school PC quality, show that the quality and game play is stomped out and despite the hopes of the fan it never returns.

I love DAO it was one of the best RPGs in modern history, a real kickback to Baldur's Gate and alike, DA2 was completely crap.

Anyone expecting DA3 to be any good is simply naive, it has literally never occurred before that these franchises magically correct back to their former glory after EA has raped them.

So I'm calling it now, it will be a DA2 repeat and be missing all the elements that made DAO such a fantastic game.

Why should they? It's a great tool but it's high maintenance and appeals to a pretty minimal amount of users. NWN still is an outstanding game with a small community kept alive [in part] by the toolset, but ultimately it did nothing but slightly delay the demise of the playerbase and created no return for the developer really.

Personally I'd rather DA3 have NWN's character building than NWN's toolset if I had to choose.

Well NWN came out 11 years ago so it's no surprise it doesn't have a large community anymore, but the toolset was THE highlight feature of that game. There are literally hundreds of great custom made campaigns that all have their own stories, not to mention the persistent worlds. Easily one of the best bang for buck games in the history of gaming. A kind of game that EA would never approve.

Well it's not as if it's only dead "now" lol, NWN community was pretty much on the brink of extinction five/six years ago; it's just still on life support. Which is a pretty good run, but ultimately while that 'aftermarket' is fun for us but I think it'd be a hard sell from a business perspective because of it's [lack of] return.

On one hand, it did probably help keep people invested in the game which would boost sales of the two expansions and multiple DLC modules. But on the other it requires a lot of support, it's giving away for free something that you could sell, and it can cannibalize/displace sales of future titles.

I think some sort of marketplace or venue that gives players the ability to support both the developer and the content producer ('profit sharing' essentially) is the best way to make it worthwhile for both parties, kind of like the Steam workshop in TF2 or DotA2. The best analogue would be the map stamps, but unfortunately those haven't been particularly successful compared to the cosmetics market.

Dear god they gave the first preview of combat today. They spend most of the video talking about how strategy and tactics with full parties are going to be their niche and how they are going to mesh the strength of Origins and DA2.

Then they show some gameplay and it seems DAO + DA2 = A Dragon's Dogma/Kingdom of Amalur/ME3 hybrid. Complete with Warriors having a dodge button rolling around in heavy armor, and throwing chains to rip away shields. Its an ARPG through and through.

I guess it will be strategic because you can swap to your pawns....I mean companions.

Can someone help me out and post a facepalm image?

What the hell? It looks even more action-based, and poorly done too (I know it is still alpha).

Why the hell does Bioware think they can do ARPG correctly when the genre's current offerings are so beyond what they can put out?

What strengths of DA2?

What strengths of DA2?

Came in here to say exactly that.

Seems like development for DA3 should be fairly simple, don't do anything you did in DA2.

Edit - If EA drops the ball again with DA3, CDP and Witcher 3 will eat them for breakfast and shit out the remains.

I couldn't agree with you more; the devs should pretend DA2 never happened and make something similar to DA: Origins with updated graphics. I still love DA:O and play it every now and then, it's still holds up to this day. I would be perfectly happy with "more of the same" with updated graphics - that includes classes not being "dumbed" down as they were in DA2, more abilities, tons of classes, etc. And a storyline that makes sense and is engaging. I could not stand the quests/storyline in DA2, it was truly annoying - and compounded by the fact that all of the dungeons/mobs were rehashed over and over.

I'm really on the fence with Bioware, I don't think I can support them if they release another disappointment. I'll definitely read user reviews before purchasing inquisition......

-Bioware wants to have their cake and eat it too. ARPG for consoles (note the video has everyone using an Xbox controller) and traditional RPG for PCs. They tried to do this with DA2 and IMO really failed on the PC side due to design decisions more than anything else.

So long as we don't get spawning enemies (sounds like we're not), a good overhead view of the action and well thought out skill synergy for both your allies and your enemies then DAI will have a good/great combat system. If they're really smart they'll bring back a robust action queing system like KOTOR, which would really kick it up a notch.

If they're even smarter they'll make a KOTOR 3, but they already said that's not gonna happen so oh well...

Fixed that for you.
