Anybody here drag race? I don't understand the excitement...all ya do is rev and rev and then mash the gas to see who wins. Personally i would rather auto-x or run some tracks with a nice all around car.

Are you talking Street Drag Racing or actually dragsters like IHRA/NHRA?

Yup, drag racing where a 10th of a second hesitation can make a car length's difference.

No skill involved there.

It's more Car against Car (with a bit of driver reflex thrown in)
So it's a different KIND of racing.

I used to race at the strip and on the street. It was SOME fun Baby!!

Bracket racing in particular is a kick. Your car doesn?t even have to be all that fast. Just consistent.

Have you done it? If not, then it's like a virgin saying sex is crap.

Thats a pretty good saying fastz.

Like the rest have said it is a different kind of racing. I enjoy watching it every once in a while, and I also like street drag racing.

I think he meant YOU don't have skills in drag racing.

Its not YOU haven't done it, just you didn't do it right; hence, you find it boring.

I tell ya one thing guys...i dont own a Front wheel drive car...i own a 5pd stick Rear wheel drive vehicle so i know what it's like to have rear wheel spin.

I rev my engine at 2400-2600 RPM and then hope that whatever pavement i'm on my wheels won't stick too hard and my rear end doesn't slip out...after that it;s pretty much just changing gears....BORING

Well, I too drive a rear-wheeled car. But with only 250 HP and weighing TWO (2) tons, it doesn't do really well in a quarter mile, more or less 0-60 mph...Oh yeah, it only has 4 gears and one of them is "R"

LOL

Yeah but your car is probably <400hp with street tires and you are not racing someone nor have fans cheering you on.
And there is not a good chance of you crashing at 250-300 mph or the joy of victory or getting paid for doing it.

the sheer excitement when you hear the wheel spinning and the surge you got when the car accelerate throwing you deep into the seat .. yes, i dig drag racing (street)

Because your description "rev and rev and mash the gas" is far from accurate. Then, when half a dozen people come in saying "sounds like you've never done it" you respond with "yes I have". Sorry, but it wasn't real convincing.

What track did you race at? What car were you driving? What times did you run? Who did you race against?

Oh really, what's your reaction time, short time, and how close have you hit your dial-in? HOw do you practice so you don't red light? How do you control your throttle/clutch so you don't spin excessively?

Just engine work? I guess you are just a driver. Part of drag racing is to get every potential HP out of your engine. Stripped cars? Yeah, some do, but some race in the street form. I happened to be in the latter.

edit: shifting: do you shift fast enough so you don't drop too much rpm between shifts? How about mis-shifts?

Really if you have never done it you have no right to talk....

I used to Drag Race at New Englad Speedway back in highschool and early in college and it was one of the most fun things that I ever did....not only do you test your reflexes and response time, but also your ability at automotive tuning and you have a great time and meet some really nice people in the process.

I can say to each his own, but until you have done it then you really have no place to comment.

I've watched it on TV (and at the track), and it's about as fun to look at as watching NASCAR...which means it sucks IMHO.

I have no personal interest in seeing some rockets go down a track in the blink of an eye. Give me F1 or LeMans ANYDAY. There is just NO comparison. And at least you can associate LeMans cars with cars you see on the road (as well as the technology used).

LOL, here comes another "virgin" crapping on drag racing.

Watch car race on TV is like watch golf on TV.

You are entitle to your opinion, but I take opinions without actual experiences very lightly.

For those of you who are reading this thread, don't let these "virgins" keep you from experiencing drag racing. Do it once or twice, then decide for yourself if it is boring.

I've done both.

Wednesday night is "Grudge Night" at the strip.....cheap to get in..$5...and race all night.

Semitrucks to Exotic Eurocars show up. It's run what ya brung! When it gets slow, the mechanics run their minibikes....FUN!

Bracket Racing is the most fun. You 'dial in' your car with a few runs. Say you turn in a 15 second quarter mile. You might be racing a car that dialed in at 10 seconds!

The 10 second car must wait 5 seconds to launch after the 15 second car. With the difference in launch times resulting in a very close finish! BUT! If you beat your dial in time, you lose automatically! It's all about driving!

You might bring a VW Beetle and race a top fuel dragster!

I've never had so much fun!:D
