How much $$$ into both cars, since the GTO is modded and probably a higher sticker to begin with it sounds like the 'stang is pretty good bang for the buck. Crazy to break it in that way, but, from what I've read the dealerships do that anyway.... just not at the track.

that is why you have to pick one sitting on the car carrier

Spoke too soon, there's a 350Z in the video.
I'd expect a V8 to beat out a V6 anyway.

I should have added, both these guys are good drivers. The 'stang owner has a Cobra that does 11's, and the GTO had the following mods: titanium coated headers/Randon-Tech midpipes/K&N Aircharger/Taylor 8mm Spiro-Pro wires/NGK TR-55 plugs/Diablo Tuner.

Gotta love a guy that takes his pony with only 400 miles on it to the track
Why coat headers with titanium?

I don't even know if there's such a thing. I'm guessing it's a titanium, coated exhaust (as in ceramic coated)

i.e. ceramic coating on a titanium piping

Can you move the GTO gas tank from the trunk back to where Holden Monaro has it? Apparently they moved it into the trunk because they are affraid of US lawyers.

350Z is same price as GTO. So it's a good comparison.

yeah, I don't know why you would think a Z's cheaper than the GTO.

As for titanium "coating", I think it's a legit process, but it's more of a impermeation moreso than a coating, so it doesn't add to the volume. There was a show that featured some guy that was working on a Subaru engine...apparently the process is used in some professional racing.

yes, my memory of the show is quite poor. :D

GTO is also a lot more expensive than a Z.

GTO is cheaper than Z out of the door and comes with leather standard.
GTO is closer to the G35 though since it has a back seat, and it's definitely cheaper than that out of the door.

Go on carsdirect.com and price out the GTO. There is $3500 rebate with GMAC financing. Out the door GTO will be less than similarly equipped G35 or 350Z, because everything is standard on the GTO.
BTW, top gear hated the 350Z, but loved Vaxhaul Monaro (GTO in UK)

Something else, since I feel the need to defend my 350z... have you ever sat in a GTO? the interior build quality is CRAP compared to the Z. Granted the Z isn't great, but everything inside the GTO screams cheap. Radio, HVAC controls, the "leather" seats. Granted the GTO is faster, it's a great track car. High bang for the buck.

I'm not sure what options are missing from the base 350z that the GTO has, but that could make up for the price difference.

WTF?

leather is $1000 more, add that and it's still less. unless you consider the rebate, and this is not considering the dealer mark-up.. which was near $3k 2 months ago at my local pontiac dealership.

oh and 6-speed standard.

Camry has better interior than 350Z. It must be better. I love when people bring up interior when talking about sports cars. I guess RSX is a better sports car than Corvette since it has "better" interior.
GTO has a great interior for a sports car though. Leather looks great and you can get it in red or blue too and it's standard. 350Z interior is nothing to brag about. Top gear ripped it for the flimsy interior. They didn't like the GTO interior much better, but they fell in love with the car. It's in the latest episode. And it gets 30mpg highway.

gotta say, that's the most stupid couple of diamond member posts I've seen in a while. We understand that you have to defend your Z...but a few of us here have GTOs and don't have our panties in a bunch like you do.

chiiiiiiiiiiiill.

(But then no driving the Z)

I sat in a 350z, I didn't like it. Steering wheel is funky, and I didn't like the gauges. I'd still buy one (not for 30k~ though) and drive one, but the interior did not impress me at all. Heck, its got some flimsy antenna which felt extremely cheap.

That said, I have not sat inside a GTO, though I've seen plenty of pictures, and I've seen it at plenty of car shows, it appears to be very nice. Top Gear critized the Holden's interior a little bit, but I still think it looks nice.

I'd still rather have a GTO than a 350z, daily driver or track car.
