Dr Martens w/ dress pants, shirt and tie?

I need to purchase a nice pair of dress pants and a shirt for this week. Instead of buying new shoes I thought I'd wear my brown Dr. Martens which are still in great shape.

Anyway here are the items:

shirt

My shoes

I might need to purchase a tie as well.

I'm going to where I've been assigned to conduct my student teaching and I'd like to make a good first impression. I'll be meeting the principal and my cooperating teacher.

Personally I'd go with a smaller lug sole and skip the orange stitching lest you be confused with one of your students, but Docs in general would be fine.

yea, I forgot about the yellow stiching. The stiching might stick out a bit too much, eh?

I would dress it up a little more, personally. Neither the shirt nor the pants are dress, but more like casua. I'd get up to a business casual with a nice knit shirt, black pants/dress chinos, and a nice pair of non-casual shoes.

IMO anyway.

Those arent slacks or dress pants, their freakin Chinos. Basically a tad nicer than jeans.

Wear your DOC's all day long with them.

You wearing that oufit will make a great :roll: impression

it looks like a candy cane, a more subtle color would be more appropriate.

I know... I know but I'm working with children. I'm not an investment banker! I've been in school settings that are laid back and I've been in a few that have a strict dress code. The male teachers that work in the strict school districts all wear Khakis, casual/dress shirts and a tie.

If I were going in for an actual interview, I would dress much differently. The only thing that I'll be doing on visitation day is I'll talk with the principal of the school and I'll spend the day in my assigned classroom.

I guess we don't understand the venue, so you likely know best what's appropriate. In that case, I personally think the docs would look fine with what you have.

Ever heard of "dress" chinos? They aren't dress pants in the sense that you'd wear them with a suit, but they're definitely more business than casual, and you can wear them with a dress shirt and a jacket.

How formal is the occasion? I'd say the outfit you've chosen is smart casual, but the shoes have got to go.

Try Aldo for a cheap pair of black dress shoes. Look for something with a low-profile and a narrow toe. The shirt is fine, but swap the stone chinos for a pair in black. Actually, I'd recommend Banana Republic or Club Monaco. Both are in your price range.
