Looks like I found my next camera.

I'm gonna wait and see, how this stacks up to the Nikon D70...

This might help: 350D Sample gallery

I agree with Czar & sygyzy - looks like I found my next camera (and my first DSLR; I'm glad I waited).

Nate

The more about I read about it, the more I like it. March seems a long ways a ways.

I just played around with the Nikon D70, it's a nice camera very solidly built. If the 350D is anything like it I will be first in line to get it.

The 350D appears to have arrived in stores - I was looking around in the dpreviews.com forums, and a couple people have found the silver version in their local Best Buy. That was quick. No luck here though :(

I saw that too on dpreview, but my BB doesn't have it yet either. I went over there with my CF card to try to get some sample pics. :)

I might try again tommorow, or some time next week. I know of one or two other stores around here :p

There are some pics posted over at dpreview now, too.

OK, just read the one NFS4 posted - and I agree, completely, with the "grip gripe" - and my hands are by no means large. In this one respect, I'd rather have either the old rebel or (preferably) the 20D. Guess I'll be springing for the battery grip before too long.

Very nice. I'm seriously thinking of selling my 300D and buying this now. Anyone interested? I haven't even had it 6 months.

I'll trade ya! I have a 300D, less than 6 months old without a scratch on it. I'll even throw in $200 hundred dollars and an extra battery charger.

no, thanks :) Like I said, thus far my sole gripe with the camera is the tiny grip. Other than that, I like it.

We've been waiting to upgrade from our Minolta S404. Wife wants to check it out in the store so waiting on some to arrive locally. For me it's a tossup between that, and say, the Sony F8*8... and my preference is the Canon/DSLR.

where do you live? Some best buys are carrying them, though not all. That's where I got mine. I believe some local camera stores are starting to get them now, as well.

Do you have the kit lens on it? I think it might look a little awkward with some of the larger Canon lenses on it. I have a Canon L lens and I'm thinking of buying the 17-40 f4 L lens to go use with my 300D. I'm also thinking of selling the 300D and buying this camera. Either way I think I'm still going to pick up the 17-40 L.

Edit-All gear will be purchased from B&H Photo regardless.

I'm in S.FL, the best buy closest to my house didn't have any when I checked a few weeks ago. Of course, there were 3 folks working (doing nothing) in that dept as I walked back and forth around the various display cases trying to find one. None of them asked me if I needed any assistance. I can say I won't feel guilty about fooling with one there and then ordering it online from someplace cheaper afterwards...

yes, I do have the kit lens on it. Right now, it's the only lens I have - as I said, this is my frist DSLR, period. As with nearly any camera though, once you get past a certain point, it becomes a case of putting the camera on the lens, and not the other way around. With this camera, it just happens sooner. For example :)

(I found that over at dpreview; the OP said it was canon's 500mm F/4L)

Call them again, or go in and look. They've only come out in the last week and a half or so. Apparently BB only carrries silver though, if that matters any.

We'll be swinging by again (calling is useless imo). Yeah, silver does matter but not for getting the feel for the camera, which is what we want to do first. Will order black from somewhere. Thanks for the headsup.

Well, I went over to Fry's during lunch to check it out. It is noticeably smaller than the 300D. It fit my hands well though and I could see carrying it around with a smallish lens mounted on it. I'm not interested in the kit lens though. It is not very good and I have better Canon glass. I'm going to go over there again tomorrow with my lenses and see how it feels with them on there. They have the 300D, 350D and the 20D so I will compare them at that point. In fact, I'm going to bring a flash card and do a little side by side comparison.

went out and played with my camera at the Missouri Botanical Garden for a while this afternoon. Too cold and rainy to go to the zoo :) Got a few good pictures, but like I said, this is my first SLR - so there are many more duds than good ones. I need a bigger memory card :)

I swung by Best Buy today, and they still didn't have it. The sales guy came up right away and asked if I needed any help... so I asked him and he said not for a few more weeks. Online site for zip code shows that none of the area stores have them in stock. Maybe I'll try Wolf camera or something.

While I was there I took a few pics with the Nikon 8700 and Canon G6 and wasn't impressed when I looked at them at home, but, I'd need to play with the cameras further to get a legit feel for them.
