While Slipstream's stats are back online - this only serves as reprieve... Obviously he's entitled to his source, and is unable to share it. We're therefore back to square one with regard to stats development. :(

Does it have to be PHP? I'm a mean PERL coder, and I've done CGI stats before. I just don't happen to have (1) a PHP book, (2) a webserver set up, or (3) internet beyond dial-up.

Whatever I suppose!

Although we really don't want 2-3 people working on completely different things!

If you want to help out with TAstats.com PM me ;)

Well... no - I suppose not. I titled it that way because I knew Slipstream's were done that way. (we thought we might be able to get his source code)

I certainly the the WAY Slipstream did the stats is something to be desired. From my perspective - what we need is:

A. Team Ranking - With graphing and historical data as well as threats & conquests (that's GREAT)

B. Drill down to Team Members with individual graphing, historical data, threats & conquests.

C. Hourly updates

Whether or not individual ranking is necessary is open to discussion. It takes a long time to load the whole "shootin' match" - and is readily available at Stephen's site.

If we can do this in an attractive eye-pleasing way that accomplishes the above - it could be written in FORTRAN for all I care. ;) I just want our team to have great stats, updated hourly. :)

So, basically you want my D2OL stats exept with DPAD numbers? Or are there features not offered in my stats that you would want to see?

Geoff,

Personally, I think your stats are great!

I love that the stats are suppressed by default, the presentation is much cleaner and you don't have to sort thru the mounds of inactive participants.

Built in milestones are much more than we're getting from current automated stats pages.

Like I said before, the one and only change I wouldn't mind seeing is some labeling and a few markers along the x-axis in the graphs. (Dates every 5 or 10 days sorta thing)

It would be more than awesome if we could have DPAD stats exactly as you have D2OL stats showing right now...

Your work is very nice ;)

Okay then... lemme see what I can do quickly for you guys....

Questions:

- what are the intervals you would like to see for milestones?
- in the rawstats, if someone does not start with a [ does that mean they are not on a team?
- what is the significance of the different versions, and should totals encompass both and do they need to be broken out?

Another request I had for my stats was to offer the choice of last week, last month, or alltime on the graphs... any interest for that?

oh... something I offer on my stats is a display of nodes and their production over a rolling 24 hours (mine can be seen HERE Do you have something similar? Or would it just be at the user level?

I belive it's just user level Geoff, the results from all machines are lumped together. There is not data for each machine that I know of.

ewwww... and why is there user duplication in the raw stats file?

[TA]DanC,675,0,185771546
[TA]DanC,0,25773,5569663
[TA]DanC,0,31972,6134573.4

They should be merged I imagine?

I guessing they are merged in the finished stats Not being a stats master I'd never looked at the raw data myself, I just like seeing the results :D

- what are the intervals you would like to see for milestones?
first 10000, 50000, 100000, 500000, 1000000
every 1000000 thereafter

- in the rawstats, if someone does not start with a [ does that mean they are not on a team?
no... tho it would be nice for folks to start with their [TA] tag (I think all of ours do, just other teams aren't as clean) or whatever team tag, bob[TA] would qualify a team member just as [TA]bob would.

- what is the significance of the different versions, and should totals encompass both and do they need to be broken out?
by this i'm assuming you're looking at the different columns in the rawstats.txt file? Really, only 4.3 is what matters at this point in regards to current stats.

Another request I had for my stats was to offer the choice of last week, last month, or alltime on the graphs... any interest for that?
A great idea ;) Definitely interested :D

Also, I noticed the duplicate entries in the rawstats.txt when I started parsing it the other night as well... Kinda a pain :p

none of this is canonical :D just trying to help you get started ;)

GeoffS,

There are several versions of Muon in those stats. There's ver4.3, 4.32, and (I think) the previous version as well. Some of our members won't have some of the others as they've not been crunching during previous versions.

So, do you guys need a TeAm meeting to figure out how you want the stats done and then get back to me? Roll up all the versions or use only the most recent version? Obviously roll up all identical user entries and select the best result for any duplicates, right? These decisions will affect team totals since I'll be rolling teams up from the users. Is there a hard&fast rule about team names? Is it [---] by convention or convenience?

one thing i do know geoffS is that prior version stats do count towards current totals. i'm not sure how far back but i think 4.2?

I'd submit that all stats that Stephen is including need to be included in ours. Obviously, in order to be accurate they should match up. Occasionally - Stephen throws out the older versions - but keeps the credit for the totals. It will be easier - since we have Stephen's site as a baseline and the "official" totals.

GeoffS - I looked at your D2OL stats - and they're EXCELLENT! I particularly like the milestones and overall look and feel. Outstanding job.

Since Geoff already HAS all this stuff -- is there any objection to allowing him to run with it? Obviously the few wheels that have to be reinvented the better. His point about not wasting volunteer hours is well taken.

Garry - is that ok with you? Is there some part you guys can coordinate and divide responsibilities? I don't think we want to "snub" anyone - and I'm VERY sensitive to that. It (on the surface) just appears that Geoff has already developed pretty-much everything we need.

With regard to team naming conventions - anything within " [ ] " is a team name whether it preceeds the user name or is after. Yes... that part sucks - but that's what I've observed.

edit:
Obviously - we'd still want to host this on Tastats.com - although a mirror at Geoff's would be a nice touch. :)

As DanC said, I think we should really try to - though it may take some time - get all the stats we have for TA on the "tastats.com" site :D Besides that, I really like the look of the D2OL stats! :D:beer:
