Good year but not sure why they had Bates go nuts after getting out of jail and rape and kill Sybil since she married the irish guy and was "dirty".

Was there more to him not liking the irish cause and thinking anyone that gets knocked up by a irish man should be raped and killed?
 
Wow, just saw the Christmas Special for Season 3...
I can't believe they would kill Matthew after just having his kid, that's barbaric of the writers, plus he was my favorite character so I'm pretty shocked and pissed. Damn you Downton, why so serious!!

They had to, he had a 3 year contract and it was up and he did not want to return.

Yeah I just read an article about it, what a shame. Apparently this happened with the Lady Sybil actress too, people want to leave the UKs most popular show to do less grand things, more power to them I guess.
