Well i like the idea of RIAAradar.com!!!


Besides the fact that iTunes isn't even as easy as (pick your poison) I have to say that even if it were.........when you buy your music there.........Jobs still has your music by the balls!!! It ain't yours.......believe me..........it's Jobs'!!!

Find DRM-free music whenever possible!! (I believe Amazon is DRM free)


I actually still prefer the CD to any other form, so I can have it 'til I die! F! the RIAA!

I'll pay.......but I'll buy the music MY WAY........DRM-free........JOBS-free and in HARD (cd) form so I can play/rip/touch/lick it any way/where/how I want!!!

Yeah generally I can't bring myself to buy lossy music. Even if I can't tell the difference between a 192kbps MP3 and a 1411kbps WAV, I just don't like the idea of paying the same price for a product of inferior quality. Not to mention digital sales generally don't include all the nice artwork, plus if your HDD goes out with most download services you're screwed.

But if you want to get technical you don't own the CD, or at least you don't own the data that's on it. You've just purchased a license to play it. 😉

+ Above average quality (256 kbps)
+ no DRM
+ mp3 format
+ no software needed if you're buying single songs
+ music from all four major labels (3.3 million songs)
+ songs run from 89 - 99 cents

Why do people even use iTunes anymore?

I use it because it so far has recommended music that I like, and the interface is better than Amazon's (though it's far from perfect also).

QTFairUse will strip iTunes DRM, so that you can listen to music you have legally purchased with the player/device of your choice.

As far as I know player of choice means "ipod of choice." I don't have an ipod and I don't want to have to convert aac files to mp3 just to play them on my Creative Vision:M.
 
I have a moral qualm about the RIAA getting even one cent of my money.. So I attempt to like their music as little as possible. They make it very easy.

I support your downloading, though.
 
audio quality is the most important and that requires some tweaking while ripping. Most of the iTunes amazon stuff are terrible , I can in fact tell the difference between 256 kbps and 320 Kbps , I can also tell the difference between ABR/CBR , 2 pass vs 1 pass , and I can tell u for sure the stores don' t put in the measley efforts at consistently. for some reason audiophiles/possibly pirates on torrents do the extra mile. Thats just on quality.

The torrent setup is fool proof since PNP is universal for most router defaults.

Use utorrent if ur having problems.

the only thing i don't like about amazon is that you can't redownload the music you bought if you should lose it somehow, like in a HDD crash.

I'm not sure if the other sites allow this or not as I've never used them, but thats a big issue.
 
You're not alone. There were reports about how most people downloaded Radiohead's free album over torrents instead of from their website.

Does amazon have DRM? I quit downloading Itunes crap because the songs I paid for stopped being playable on my ipod. It's a royal PITA. Luckily 99% of my music was ripped from my own CD collection, so no DRM.

I could only endorse that if there was a nominal fee per use to cover the related costs -since the original price is not inclusive of personal storage nor effectively unlimited streaming.

Pirating would be making a virtually identical knock-off car and selling it for a price which drastically undercuts the original (since the pirate saves all the costs of design, marketing, warranty, taxes, &c.). Not realistic at that scale versus a digital copy but that's the idea. Whereas copying a copy without profit motive is simply minor theft.

yup amazon even uses the lame encoder.

i don't think mp3 supports drm.
which is why the music industry never adopted it.
 
If ya really want to support the artist, go see them live. they get more cash from shows then they do from CDs, especially the smaller artists.
