you could try uninstalling IIS and than reinstalling using the SP3 files, that may or may not work.

If your applicantion cant handle moving from SP3 to SP4 under IIS than I doubt it could handle running under linux 
an no offense, but just because you have done a poor job administering a Windows box doesnt mean you will do a good job administering a Linux box. Both require a good administrator to run correctly.

I'm not trying to be cocky, when you make a smart @ss remark you should expect a smart @ss response.
I have been watching the newsgroups and I havent seen anything worse about SP4 than when S3 was released (or SP2 for that matter). It's not going to work 100% of the time for every single install of Windows out there, that's why you should have backed things up before applying it.

back to my origional suggestion, you could try uninstalling IIS than reinstalling and using the I386 directory from the SP3 install as your SP files. You would probably have to reinstall your application that you have running ontop of IIS but it would mean that IIS would be running with all the SP3 files.
It would take much less time to try this than it would to format and install any OS.

I dont understand it either, I try to offer suggestions for troubleshooting the problem and avoiding it in the future and I get attacked.

OK here's your solution. First, stop yelling at spy. Then, reformat your computer, and put SP3 back on. Remember: Never fix a working system.

That recommendation will leave you with a wonderfully-working system until the day it gets hacked.

Yeah, you're pretty much screwed if you didn't backup the existing service pack before installing the new one.
Anyway, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling IIS, and then reinstalling service pack 4 before trying anything else.
You could also try doing a "repair install" of the operating system, which will downgrade you to original operating system files. If will probably break a few applications in the process, but at least you will have "uninstalled" the service pack.

Don't worry guys...I format the box and installed up to SP3 and re-installed all the stuff on top. No big deal...just a couple of hours lost, which is what I was trying to get around to.

. But thats what old 486 linux boxes are for!Are you sure this was a SP4 problem? The information you have given thusfar lead me to believe that the SP4 upgrade process was what had broken your application. It's quite possible that you could have installed SP4 prior to installing your application and had it work correctly. At least than you would have the majority of the OS updates applied.
