Double high task bar

Win XP

I don't know what I did but I now have a double height task bar and I don't like it.

This is not a case of my pulling it up but two rows of icons in the "notification area" AKA system tray.

Please get me out of this. Thanks.

Just click the top edge of it, and drag it down to the normal size. The size is changeable by click-dragging the border.

Thanks but that's not it as a matter of fact it can't be dragged anywhere. If necessary, I'll do a screen capture.

Anyone else know what I am talking about?

If it's any help, under the time is the day (Thursday).

Try dragging the bar on the bottom-left up to the right of the Quick Launch icons.

Can't be moved. I've had this happen before but don't remember what I did to solve it. This time I'll write it down.

When attempting to drag that bar the double arrows appear but it won't move.

Does disabling the Quick Launch bar fix it?

YES!

I could have sworn I did that before.

Problem is that if I enable the Quick Launch, I end up with the double thing.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok. Good. We're getting someplace. Enable the Quick Launch bar again. Instead of trying to drag the bottom bar up to the right of the Quick Launch bar, drag the bar next to the Quick Launch bar down to the left of the bar that has the program buttons. See if that works.

Well, I'm stumped. I'd have to sit in front of it and play with it.

Me too. I'm sitting here having dinner. How's that for dedication?

In doing a search on Google I have seen people remarking that they have done this intentionally but don't say how they did it.

Knowledge Base was no help.

More info: now with the taskbar, I can resize it bigger but I cannot make it single height....always at least double.

Try this:What happens is that the end "margin" of the QuickLaunch toolbar has
gotten so far over to the right that it is now down below. Unlock the
Taskbar and then "grab" the dotted line on the bottom bar and drag it
up to immediately to the right of the QuickLaunch icons. Now you've
successfully made the QuickLaunch toolbar shorter and can "grab" the
top bar of the Taskbar and "push" it down to the regular one-tier
height.

I got this from here

That should do it!

Right. I have been there before. The separator bars can get dragged to a position where this happens. I don't know exactly how to fix it but if I fsck around with the separator bars enough I end up fixing it.

By God, I think you've got it!

That suggestion by Malke did it.

I cannot tell you how many times I tried to drag that bar and it would do nothing (even this morning) and all of a sudden it moved.

Thanks guys, this is most appreciated. Sorry to take up your time.

Have a great day.
