Yay me! :barf;

(Hopefully, I'll still be employeed to have insurance - if not, COBRA it is).

That is all.

I had a double hernia repair... when I was 18 months old. Needles to say, I don't remember it too well :).

Good luck with your surgery.

Sort of got the same impression when he told me that there will be a drip tube installed for a few days to allow local anastetic to be dripped onto the area. Ouch! :(

I hope your surgery goes well and youre still employed.

Pray you dont have to go on COBRA. My payments were $579.80 per month, just for myself. And I paid six months worth. :(

The new stimulus bill will pick up 65% of my COBRA payments for 9 months, if it comes to that. I hope that I won't need to do it, but you never know.

Youch....I had one (strangulated) when I was an infant, glad I don't remember that one! Second one came along 9 years later, got it early.

Hope you recover quickly!

I'm sure you will do fine. I am also sure that its going to hurt like a bitch, but just think about it. You now have a trump card if your wife ever plays the childbirth card!

Best of wishes. Please post when the date gets close, I'll put you in my prayers.

oh it's going to hurt. I had bi-lateral involuntary hernia surgery when I was 18. do you have a single level home? I wasn't able to climb stairs for 2 or 3 days and slept on the sofa bed. grab a bunch of movies you've been meaning to watch but haven't watched yet.

where is it?

i had hernia surgery TWICE for one near my belly button.
the first time yielded a 6 inch incision, but apparently 'didn't take'
2nd time they used a bunch of little incisions and scopes and stuff (also used a mesh instead of stitches to fix hernia)

both times i sweet talked them into letting me go home the same day
and both times i was stuck on the couch for a week

the absolute WORST thing about the recovery is the pain meds constipate you, and your abdomen muscles are cut up so its hard to 'push' when its turd-time.

That's cheap...when my insurance ran out after I got hurt on the job, my COBRA through my union was $1300 per month...in 2004.

You guys are making me nervous, lol.

I've had my gallbladder taken out but it was laproscopic (spell?) with 4 smaller incisions. Hurt like hell for a few days and then just became sore. I'm not sure that this won't hurt more as the 3 inch incision is so much bigger than the smaller cuts of the gallbladder surgery.

I had a single hernia operated on in HS. My incision was a little more than 4". I had to stay in bed for the first day or so, but after that I could get up and walk around as long as I hunched my back and stayed on the motrin and vicodin. It's not so bad. If you've never had surgery before, you won't remember a damn thing after being wheeled into the room and before waking up.

Mine was a large painless lump protruding from right above and to the left of my bladder, about the size of half an orange under your skin. It happened when I was weight lifting.

Not necessarily painless. Mine appeared so fast (muscle tearing) that it burns at times. Also, when pushing it back in, there is a small amount of pain. I decided because of the pace at which it is growing (and the possibility that I may lose my job and insurance) that it was time to get it fixed (I have a small one in my naval that needs to be fixed too).

The doctor said that he would leave a small tube outside of the cut that I could drip anesthetic into when it hurt so the local should help the pain.
