-All those kick ass Sierra Games too numerous to mention
-Anything from the Ultima series (I still wish they made more RPGs like this)
-Anything from Microprose (the king of RTS and turn-based games) like Civilization, Master of Orion (THE BEST GAME EVER), Master of Magic, XCOM
-Of course Doom/Descent has to be in there
-Finally C&C/Starcraft

Everything after C&C pretty much went the way the way of Win95/98/ME

Man, this thread brings back a LOT of memories (and I'm only 21!)

All the old Apogee titles.. Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen (man, I used to play that day and night), Duke Nukem, I can't remember the names of some of the others, but they were all great. I was totally addicted.

I've got to say Star Control 2 and XCOM2, both for their replayability. I picked up SC2 and played it straight through a month ago, and it's still the best game I've played to date.

XCom: UFO Defense.. hands down the most addictive game I have ever played and ever will play, what I wouldn't give to go back to when I played it for the first time and in that first mission every one of my troopers but one of them died and those sectoids were laughing all the way to their graves.. bastards! :)

Masters Of Orion, the original Warcraft Orcs and Humans, Duke Nukem 3D, Star Control, Wing Commander, Black Thorne.

Most of these games blow current games away in playabality and pure fun.

There was really nothing to do graphics wise back then, so everyone focuses on pure fun factor. Now you get too much time spent on graphics and not enough spent on fun.

Now don't get me wrong, all other things equal I would rather have a Quake3 graphics than Duke Nukem, but Duke was sooooo mcuh more fun.

Whats amazing is when you go back and play some of these old games, you will be shocked on how BAD they look now, and how GOOD you THOUGHT they looked then.

Hah, I downloaded and played so many text adventures! It's a trip to think about the errie scenes in my head when I played those games.
