So far so good with doom3, but I wonder if anyone has figured out how to run the game with a higher refresh rate than 60Hz. There's too much tearing going on right now.

Upping your refresh rate will make tearing *worse*. Turn on VSync.
The lower the refresh rate the more tearing you get. So no, it'll make it better.Upping your refresh rate will make tearing *worse*.

Create an autoexec.cfg. D3 won't overwrite any settings you place there.

On CRTs yes, LCDs not at all. In this case he has a CRT so yes it would make it better.

Get ReForce, and use it to set 85Hz for the required resolutions.
Worked for me (9800) and used to work with my Ti4400.

This is bad. I haven't got DOOM3 yet but 60 Hz would just mutilate my eyes, and I have absolutely no plans to get an LCD until at least one more generation improvement.
I think the first patch should definitely allow changing the refresh rate.

I agree. I just can't take 60 Hz. Same for my 8 yr old son. He looks like a freakin red-eyed zombie after about 1 hr on 60 Hz. Can't be good for the eyes.
Edit: I think the 60 Hz thingy is the reason behind all the "playing Doom 3 gives me a headache" posts.
If you do that you'll get a black screen with an "out of range" error.I believe he meant upping it past what your monitor is capable of.
On LCDs upping the refresh rate has absolutely no effect since it's tied to DVI and the response rate.LCDs not at all.

I don't notice any flickering at
