Doom

Yep, that looked awesome. Not my kind of game, really - a throw-back to the original Doom - but it looked so darned fun I can't resist!

That looked pretty awesome. Doom 2 was the first game I got when we finally bought a home computer that had a color monitor. (I previously had a Compaq 8088 portable computer with a monochrome screen). I played the heck out of that game. This reminds me more of Doom 1 than Doom 2, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Holy crap I gotta get this game.. Thanks for posting now I have something to look forward to other then Battlefront 3 and halo 5 🙂 This is going to be an awesome year for gaming no doubt.

Sure the finishers look nice but did the guy have to do it on 90% of enemies lol. The pacing still doesn't look all that fast to be honest.

This is not really a throwback.

It's more action than the doom3 which was really horror/startle genre.

But it's a far cry from doom 1 and 2 which had low-impact enemies with 50 to 200 at once.

Doom 1 and 2 were fun because a game like that MUST nail down the very satisfactory killing and weapon use experience. Because that's all its got.

Supershotgun in II alone carried the entire game. So so satisfying.

This game it looks beautiful but overall the core feel seems okay to me.

My first reaction to this is eugh.

First person animations, slow motion menus, weapon wheels, all sorts of stuff flying out the monsters when they die, highlighting enemies, first person takedowns and to top it off obviously played with a controller.

It's like they took all the elements that this video parodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4yIxUOWrtw and then put them all in the new Doom, it almost feels as if this is some kind of joke reveal and that the real one they'll do a "gotcha!"

I've said this before and I'll say it again - I'm sad that Id Software was never able to evolve beyond its roots and now rehashes the same game over and over again.

Looks great to me. I'm officially on the hype train.

I haven't had a chance to read through all the E3 news yet. Have they said anything about beta access?

IIRC, those of us who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: TNO were supposed to get beta access to Doom 4 before the end of this year.

The enemies and pacing actually looks a lot like the original Doom: Episode 1. Less frenetic and screens not filled with enemies. Again, this is a small sample...

I wasn't 'that' excited for D3, but this is the most excited I have been for a Doom game since D2. 🙂

It looked good. I've never been a huge Doom fan, so I can't sit back on my nostalgia and get excited. I think introducing this type of FPS is a good thing right now since there hasn't been anything like this in a long time. The engine looks impressive and it is very fast paced for a modern FPS. I was hoping for some new mechanic that changes everything, but it looks like they are adding a few things like climbing, kill animations, and double jumping that may breath new life into it, but all those aren't new to anything other than Doom.

SnapMap could be cool if it opens up a lot of user made modes like SC2's mod tools allowed.

WTF are you talking about? Very rarely did you see more than 5-10 enemies at once in Doom or Doom II. You'd kill a 486 with more than that.

So how is this not Quake 4?

I think the appropriate response to you is, how is it Quake 4? Different engine, universe, gameplay.

Agree.

D2 was the most 'action-oriented' in some parts, but still a ton of enemies wasn't the norm. Usually it was a clue that either a boss or room full of guys were ahead when you got something like the chaingun or plasma gun + plenty of ammo. 🙂

Those games look like fun.

Fallout4 and doom.

The sound hangs in doom sometimes. Reminds me of loading game data while playing.
