I posted my thoughts in another thread but I'll quickly revisit them here. Doom3 preys upon our natural fear of the dark, hearing thing scuffle, scuttle, slither, slink, clatter and clang in the dark dredges up all manner of horrifying imagery. You have to let your primal fear out to play with this game in order to enjoy it. Some seem to be expecting the immersion to be forced upon them instead of providing the frame of mind necessary to immersion. I think some are afraid to let themselves be afraid, so they numb themselves to the atmosphere the game provides and approach it cynically, logically, and consequently, boringly
This is John Carpenter style Sci-Fi horror at it's best! I love this genre and only wish D3 had more of a "Event Horizon" feel to the evil. Other than that I'm digging it and I'm only just now past Alpha Labs 4. I have never spent so much time putting my back in a corner, crouching, and carefully listening to every sound as I have with this game. I have let my primal fears loose and they have reacted to this game the way I reacted to strange shadows fleeing across my bedroom wall as a child. I haven't experienced this type of blood pumping fear based response since I saw Jaws as a child. Man this game makes me wax nostalgic because of the chilhood fear it can produce if allowed to

My advice is let yourself go, give in, and start enjoying the terrifying journey through hell instead of logically and critically evaluating the engine, graphics, and style of game play :light: Just a thought
