well i bought the game when it first came out, but i got a job and all my free time has been spent away from the computer. well, i got sick just the other day, and this stupid hurricane has everyone freaked out so i've been camping out playing it for the past day or so. and although the graphics are great, doom3 is the most annoying game i've ever played. everything is fvcking dark, you've got monsters jumping at you from every direction, and i'm spending half my time reloading my freaking gun. i like how the developers decided to add some "realism" in the reload times, yet in the year 2145 (or whenever this sh!t takes place) we haven't yet decided to put flashlights on our assault weapons.

ok, the game is challenging - great. but how about you make it fun, too??!? i play a game to have fun, not to be upset at all of its shortcomings.

the game is supposed to startle you. it does its job for me, especially with surround sound. but i think it gets rather old having monster closets every-frigging-where. darkness hasn't been a big problem though. it improves later on because by then most enemies you can see in the dark.

Learn to aim and conserve bullets. And the reload times are pretty fast compared to other games like half-life, far cry, or battlefield.

There are some mods you can install to put flashlights on your weapons too. Check http://doomforums.com/

It is the same as Doom2 but darker, with better graphics. I don't like dark, but hey, did you expect hell to be bright and shiney?

Sure....why not. Think about it...if there really is a Hell and a Satan why would he want to punish people that chose to forgo hanging out with his most hated enemy and came to hang out with him instead?

well, what i meant about the reload times was geared more towards the actual reload times. i tend to use 1 or 2 close up shells on monsters so as to not waste bullets.

i guess i'm just aggravated because i'm used to the gameplay of the quake and unreal games. hooray for no reloading. i will definitely check out the flashlight mod though.

the flashlight is only a minor problem. the main source of grief is that i spent $55 on a highly anticipated game, and i'm not even enjoying playing it. right now, i'm only sticking it out because i feel obligated to get my money's worth.

pretty sad.

Not to be an ass, but what did you really expect? I can't find a single thing that id claimed Doom 3 would be that it fell short on... in my opinion anyway.

Boo hoo. Get over it. You'll get your money's worth when some mods come out. For instance, the Origional Doom remake witht Doom 3 engine.

um, what did i expect? well, how about an enjoyable and fun gaming experience, for starters? i don't know if id every made such claims, but even if they hadn't, i think that something like that is implied. video game makers don't make games to upset and frustrate their users.

I agree.. Doom 3 was a huge dissappointment. I've had it installed for a month now and played it less than 1 hour. Everything about it is annoying. Fvck the graphics if everything is so damn dark. I'll be in Doom3 in a damn computer room with the lights on and I can't even see part of the desk because it is still so dark.

The only reason the monsters are hard to kill is because I have to either use my flashlight to see them, or shoot blindly into the darkness that is knocking down my health. It's funny that a video game could be fixed with duct tape.. but I bet some duct tape holding a flashlight to the gun would work quite nicely.

The game really introduces nothing new that I have seen. All the games with lesser graphics seem more playable. Carmack, imo, is too arrogant for controlling a whole game. He should be relocated to just programming the graphics engine. Door 1, find a key, door 2, find a key, etc..

So you needed to start your very own thread on it in OT, ignoring the hundreds in software & video (the proper forums)? Damn man, if you want attention that badly go rice up a Civic or walk around naked. Bash-Doom-3 month ended a few days ago.

I don't undestand why you thought it would be different than it is. id said it would be dark and there would be monsters lurking in the shadows... id said their goal was to scare you... id NEVER said it was a simulation... you've got a gate to hell open for pete's sake.

I just don't get it. Why would you think it would be any different than it is?

I think you just fell into the hype... so many people were excited about Doom 3 and the screenshots looked amazing. So ignoring the fact that it's supposed to be dark and scary and a remake of the original story in Doom, you bought it anyway, now you're complaining that it didn't live up to what you thought it would be like, despite all the screenshots and interviews from id about what it actually would be like.

*EDIT* Wanna talk about frustrating? How bout a bot in Condition Zero who already has you in his sights as you come around a corner and take a bullet between the eyes? Or how about Halo crashing repeatedly at the same point so you can never get past it to finish the game? Or how about Far Cry, a game with such a horrible ending that the last level just throws you in the middle of a volcano with 20 enemies armed with rocket launchers powerful enough that the splash damaged from just 2 rockets kills you? Or how about Madden 2004, a game so poorly made that it took 3 months after it's release for a patch to be released so I could finally play it? Or how about NHL 2003, a game so weird that it's detected as a malicious script by Norton Anti-Virus? Or how about Battlefield 1942, a game created by developers so damn stupid they designed the game around a bug in Windows XP that doesn't allow any refresh rate other than 60 Hz to be used unless you manually modify a config file in a text editor... and it's gone through how many patches now? Maybe 5 or 6? And that same damn file gets reset to the default after installing every patch, and the developers aren't smart enough to change a 0 to a 1 to allow ANY refresh rate rather than JUST 60.

The monster-in-closet thing is pretty annoying, I'll admit. I cheated and turned the brightness on the game up. My goal is to have fun while playing games, and getting eaten by stuff I couldn't see wasn't fun.

I liked Doom 1+2 a lot better, but my opinion of Doom 3 has improved. I just don't like the skeleton things.

Yes I did. I'll probably pick up where I left off in a week or so and finish the game. Maybe.

It was fun at first. Then it got kinda boring. Then I got into hell and it kicked major ass... followed by a very anti-climactic ending.

Yeah, I totally agree with the OP. Get's pretty repetitive after a while. And the flashlight thing, that was the first thing I didn't like :p Anyhow, I couldn't last 1 hour playing that game. Never bothered saving and as soon as I died, I shot up UT2k4 :D

Well, good thing I didn't spend any $.
