Doom 3 done!!

I haven't been, but a couple of my bros have. They are Master divers and have blown bubbles in about every worthwhile spot in the Carribean since they live here in Fl. I shoot straight for Costa Rica since I surf&MTB and it rules for both.

I've also heard it will be a "I'm sh*ting my pants!" scary game, thanks to the immersive graphics, plot, and music. Holloween will be a great one this year me thinks 🙂

From what I played in the Alpha (not making judgements about graphics or anything), the final version will be one scary motherfvcking game. The alpha freaked me out a bit..and it was the alpha. With good speakers, lights turned out, no ambient noises, just the game.....wow.

We were actually going to go to costa rica but we had change of plans.
my dad developed a website for a costa-rican realty website, so he could write his plane ticket off and meet with his customer 🙂

and yes, the alpha was very scary! thats why im looking forward to it...I want something to constantly scare me. and not just like AHH guy coming out of nowhere! i mean like...wow this really freaks me out and that noise is really creepy and im uncomfortable being here!!!

What do you mean? Doom 3 is good, but it is NOT by any means even slightly better graphically then halo 2 or half life 2. And chances are, Halo 2 will have better gameplay then the other 2, as halo 1 had better gameplay then half life 1, and the other dooms, although they are many years apart.

I dont see why people are crazy over half life 2, as it does nothing graphically Farcry hasnt done, and the origonal Half Life was a broing overrated game.

And what is so great about Doom 3? I remember back in the day people were like, yea you'll need a GEFORCE 3!!!! to run this game well... Yea it has great lighting effects and graphics, but what kind of gameplay is it going to have? Farcry had an ok single player, with moderate action, mostly just walking and going ooo, and ahh, and a lousy multi player. I sure hope doom 3 will be better.

well opinions may differ, but graphics wise HL2 is not the ground breaker it would have been if it was released on time. watching the hi res movies of each stalker to me looks better, in some places it is near photo realistic! now while HL2 still looks awesome, the biggest thing it has going for it is that...it is HL2. as for doom3 gameplay, i suppose we will find out in about 3 weeks! 🙂
 
Doom was the most creepy game I ever played. (Well....ever Since Silent Hill came out anyway. Silent Hill just took it above and beyond the limits of perversion. ) I mean.... Human carcasses hanging in cages, pillared gothic citadels, grim stone with carved demon portraits, fire burning into the dark skies, ..well You get the drift.

But Doom was really the first game that brought me into the world of gaming next to Resident Evil that refreashed me years later. So of course I'm highly anticipating the launch in August.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will be the surprise. You will see... Even though we know about it it I have a feeling it will amaze us more than D3 or HL2.

Yes. Every game since the original Doom. They've all been the same damn game. Doom with a new graphics engine. Zombies, Marine, Mars. Same shit, different compost heap.


I have hope for Quake 4 though. It's being developed by Raven, who actually have a hugely talented team instead of just a good coder.

dguy, you have actually looked at some screenshots and have read at least a small amount of information on D3 haven't you? I know id hasn't exactly been open about the game but hell, it sounds and looks awesome, even from the specs/screenshots that are two years old!

What is so great about D3? Halo had better gameplay than DOOM/2? Really now... this is just absurd so I'm not going to bother answering it, just to say your opinion makes me go like this 😕 and I'd say "what's so great about Halo 2" is a more appropriate question. You're comparing one of the greatest, if not (and by all means I think it HAS earned this title) the greatest PC title of all time against, well something that's not even close to it on any level IMO. The graphics look amazing and incredibly realistic for D3. I would love to argue that the graphics in D3 are going to be far better than anything else released this year and better than Halo's, but it's smarter to wait until everything's released first - screw it they are 😛 Also I'm *sure* D3 will have just amazing, s*** your pants scary gameplay since id has yet to succeed in making a bad game - they probably have the best track record of any game company out there - they've earned my respect at least.

Well it looks like I actually did bother answering your post in some detail, ah well...

Anyway STALKER also looks to be a great game, almost as good as D3 IF they pull it off, but that's not nearly so sure a thing as if it were being done by id. Time will tell for this one, but I have high hopes.

No problem. I am almost looking forward to Doom 3 more than HL2 (but that is probably because I never cared for HL). I just remember the level in the alpha when the thing comes busting through the wall...AH! And the guy around the corner with the massive machine gun..yeah itll be good.

You have to give Id more credit than that! Go look at the web sites and see the huge library of awful games out and even try to compare them to one of Id's titles. I think it's a little to early to jump to such far fetched conclusions.
 
You forgot FarCry and Painkiller. If you guys havent played painkiller, you are missing out. Used CryTek engine.

Oh and uh, I think HL2 will be out when Duke Nukem Forever is released. I dont even think the game is 50% yet.

The only game scred the shiz out of me was the original Unreal. I used to hook that game up to my Pro Logic receiver (remember we are talking like '97-'98 here) and cut lights and play through that. I hope Doom I|I beats that

Reviews may not be everything, but ign usually has a solid grasp on things. Besides, I've played both demos. Graphics are great, but the AI is completely abysmal.

I really enjoy playing Painkiller. It's like a souped-up Serious Sam, and I really liked that game back in the day. I love the swarms of a zillion enemies and the gigantic bosses. It's just mindless fun. It's great if you've had a bad day and you feel like destroying something. The graphics are quite nice and the game engine seems pretty efficient. Oh, and the painkiller...best...weapon...ever. 🙂
 
I agree it's a beautiful looking game, I just have grown out of the mindless shooters pretty much. I just the other night finally gave UT2K4 demo a try since I didn't like 3, but I have to say it's much more stratgey based than it's predecessor and I found I like it, so will be buying it soon.
 
I don't know if anyone here cares, but one of my buds works at Best Buy and he's got 4 copies of Doom 3 sitting in the backroom RIGHT NOW! We looked up in their inventory system and, sure enough, they get to bring 'em out August 3rd for our pleasure. Put simply: The game's done.

Shenanigans. If Doom showed up in a retail channel there would be others indicating that too. To think your store received copies is goofy, nevermind only 4?

Your buddy works at best buy for a reason, my guess is because radio shack turned him down.
