I think my laptop may get better settings than my desktop. It's an i7 6700hq, 8gb ram, and a gtx 960m. I should run it on both when I get it to see if there's a favorable outcome.

I haven't found any of the original doom map secrets. I will finish the game and then go back and look for the secrets. OG doom maps should be fun.
I've found one so far.

I try to get all secrets that i can see on my map and that i can manage to find in around 10 minutes. If it takes too long i give up and move on.

I plan on playing through again after i finish the game. I presume you keep all your upgrades, so it will be fun with a another play through.

Yeah I look forward to another play through on hardest difficulty, like the old days with OG doom and doom 2. Its weird how I don't care to play through any other game I have, but I am already looking forward to playing through this one again with more monsters and more difficulty. That's strange. Must mean the game is badass. They managed to replicate the same appeal that the original games had, which to be honest I thought would be impossible and didn't even occur to me as a possibility, but they did it.

Thanks.

IF, I were going to buy a new monitor so make the game even BETTER looking, what max resolution do you think I could get good performance out of?

Well the next step up would be a 1440p screen which is a pretty significant jump in terms of how much more GPU grunt it needs. A 970 is certainly capable of driving it with good performance but you would may end up needing to tone down a setting or two.

are all the good ol monsters back? like the cacodemons, dog/pig things that bite and barons of hell with green fireballs??

I don't know how it works if you "start over" a new play through, but you can go back and play any mission with everything intact, and you don't lose your current save spot either.

Having fun with co-op modes in SnapMap, just hard to find a lot of lobbies.

Anyone who wants to play, add me on Steam - username TimeToWiseUp

Game keeps randomly exiting for me. It runs great, no issues other than it randomly exiting to desktop. It did it once during a load and once while I was looking at the map.

Try re-verifying the cache integrity in Steam.

It was doing that a ton to me until I did that. Haven't had it happen since.

I tried to hold out for a sale, but I gave in and bought it for sticker after hearing how impressed people were.

If you haven't updated your drivers, do it.

4790k + r9 380x, ultra in 1080p and I went from 50-60 fps to 70-80 just with the 16.5.2 drivers.

Game is pretty bad ass. Not original Doom but still great in a different way.

I've had several random exit to desktops. Probably about 5 or 6 in total and I have about 16 hours in the game.

I'll add my own screenshot to the mix here.

This is with a DSR factor of 1.5 on a 1440p screen giving me a final resolution of 3132x1764

geez i hate hell knights. they scare the shit out of me with how fast they move. great game so far, just finished the foundry. very tight games, runs great on 4790k/16gb/290x way better than i thought, everything high.

jumped on MP just for one round and hoping to give it another try. despite me never playing SP games(MP only) i see it the other way around with Doom. got it for $40 on cdkeys

Hey guys, thinking of picking this up since it looks great, has been getting good reviews, and I don't care about MP anyway. Only issue is that my PC is fairly old at this point - I'm running an AMD Phenom II X3 720 (2.8GHz, 3 cores), 12GB RAM, and a 680 GTX. My monitor is an old 20.5" NEC flat screen running at 1680x1050. Is there any chance the game would run somewhat acceptably (30-40FPS) with this setup? I of course don't mind turning settings down to medium or whatever. I don't play a lot of new FPSes, but for what it's worth this setup seems to run AAA games from 2-3 years ago just fine.

I tested it on a 680 last night and on the "high" preset @ 1080p it was ranging from 40-70 fps. That said, the machine was running an i5 2400 CPU which is quite a bit more powerful than your Phenom X3. My guess is you'd get some pretty low minimum frames with that CPU. The Vulkan patch, when released may help you out quite a bit in this regard.

Amazon is so weird when it comes to games. $60 for a digital download code. $48 for a physical copy with same day delivery. lol

Man this game is awesome. I haven't had this much fun with a FPS in years. The gameplay is very dynamic and just fast enough without being overwhelming. This game balances health pickups perfectly where you have to constantly be in the mayhem and doing up-close brutal kills to keep your health up. The graphics are great, sound is very impactful, and the story is just enough to keep me wanting to see the how messed up the next level will be.

I'm very impressed how they could wring out a completely fresh FPS experience while still having the feel of the original DOOM. Brilliant!

a few more weeks and I should be able to give this a spin. I had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago and I still have some work to do on the new house before I can setup my gaming rig.
