Like, came to your house and took all of your expensive electronic stuff and auctioned it off so we could do things like build inner city schools and end homelessness and hunger and stuff? I mean, they wouldn't just barge in or whatever...you'd get a date or something, sorta like the draft. Then they'd give you a reciept for the stuff, and they'd let you know exactly how much you were making a contribution for.

If you really wanted another TV or whatever, you could just buy another one. If we did that, and we raised taxes since we don't pay any taxes here, things would be a lot better.

They already do that BEFORE I buy the stuff. Why double fsck us like that?

Also, if they did that to everyone, who would they sell the stuff to?

would destroy the economy. Now, instead of buying the stuff from a retailer, we would all be buying stuff from these auctions.

I think it'd be really cool if useless threads like these earned a 2 week vacation :p

Assuming somehow there were no loopholes, it would stymie the consumption of goods, since what's the point of owning crap if it's just going to be taken away from you? We'd probably get a huge surge in vacation-taking and the like, which would be interesting. Instead of a $5k TV, take a $5k vacation. It would be interesting.

Why would anyone buy anything, only to have it taken from them? People would stop buying stuff. And, like I said, who will you sell it to when everyone is afraid it will be taken from them... again.

The fact that your post makes very little sense does not worry me. What worries me is the potential amount of time you spent devising this scenario. It is Unabomberish for lack of a better word.

why would i buy that nice new plasma TV for 4k instead of just keeping $3500 in the bank and buying a 20 inch TV that will get ripped off anyway? Why have a Tv to begin with?

NOt to mention why would i go to Best buy to buy the 20inch TV? i would go to an auction and bid on one. Not to mention all the lawsuits against the goverment for thieft and double taxation etc.

just a dumb idea all around. if i got a letter saying all my stuff was going to be sold at a auction on may 4th you can bet i will be having one heck of a garage sale on the 3rd!

Don't they already double fsck us? Federal income tax on earnings, then sales tax - they get you when you make it and then when you spend it.

Although, this is an excellent example of why communism fails. If you take away the incentive to produce (profit) you take away the will to produce.
