God it's pretty damn annoying when these 20 something year olds come to the gym and start lifting weights and always 'grunt' for every rep they do. Its like 'hey kid, is it really necessary to show you can barely lift a meager 50lbs?" Do people do this to act tough or something? Just seems so stupid and it's like they're not aware of others or anything like that.. I've heard of guys doing this when they sleep with their partner too which if I was a girl, I'd ****** slap his face and or tell him to STFU.

Anyone ever notice this? Most if not all people I know agree with me and think it's stupid, also whats really annoying is those who are benching and 'bounce' the bellbar off of their chest and then have the nerve to give me advice when I'm talking to someone else about something, right like you know a thing or two about weight lifting ya dumbass.

LMAO.. so you got sick of Pokemon and Dragonball Z? and you call 20 somethings kids? LOL...

I can't believe a guy is bitchin about this?
Is it that time of the month for you?

Right because I need to hear other guys sound like they're in the john pushing out a kidney stone when its completely unnecessary IMO. The worst part about it is these guys are only doing dumbbell presses of 50lb weights each... Sure if you were doing dead lifts I wouldn't care as much or at all but otherwise its really annoying.

Some 40 year old worked in with me and started yelling loudly every time he did his rep. He was doing 50 lbs .. (sitting chest press)

How about you mind your own business? If they feel it is helping them then so be it. If you think they are just being a tool, who cares? The world is full of them.

Cause its ****** annoying and I don't feel like listening to music when pumping iron because I'm not sitting long enough to make it worth it. If I was doing something repetitive for a long period of time like jogging, running or what ever, then yeah but its just too much when doing weights. Plus if you're doing a lot of weigh, you should be concentrating on that instead. Its even funnier when one guy grunts and then the other tools start grunting too, like that 50lbs they're doing is a lot....

I grunt when I do my dumbbell bench 120 pounds each hand, I wish my gym had heavier ones but they don't... Is there something wrong with grunting?

Damn, 120 in each hand? How many reps do you do with that?

Doesn't bother me. It bothers me when someone is using the cellphone and just sits on the equipment doing nothing.

Maybe 50lbs is heavy for them?

What are you trying to prove? Whats the difference between grunting whilst doing dumbell presses and deadlifts, some people may find them equally difficult... You sound like an asshole.

Sounds like you have trouble functioning around other people to me. If you can't tune that out, you're probably weak willed.

You don't grunt for 50lbs, you should really just not be grunting at all, completely unnecessary. You can lift weights with out grunts, trust me, its quite amazing to see people there lifting weights and not making bowel movements or sounding like they're pushing out a 5Lb turd.

So did you bulk up or do you have any real stamina?

Why the f*** does it matter if someone grunts or not for 50 or 500lbs? Why do you feel the need to be a judgemental @ssho!e? Does it make you feel good about yourself to put other people down (whether you do it to their face or behind their backs)?

I think it is good that people go to the gym, whether they can lift 5lbs in dumbells or 500lbs. It's good that people are trying to get/stay in shape instead of being fat, lazy blobs. If they want to grunt, who cares. Listen to some music and if you don't want to do that, TOUGH SH!T. Deal with it.

The key to productive weight lifting is intensity. You can minimize everything (sets, reps, frequency) if you give each set maximum intensity. When doing so one can often grunt a bit, especially on heavy compound lifts like presses, squats and deadlifts.

If someone is working hard enough to grunt a bit, then why bug them? At least they are giving it everything they've got and getting the most out of their workout... unlike the stick boys and chubbies who come in and count to 10 each set while still having some left with weights that are far too light.

Bullsh!t. Show me an advanced body builder or power lifter who who doesn't grunt at LEAST on squating and deadlifts.
