Obama: Those who dont want higher taxes are selfish.

Im no fan of higher taxes, though at some level this is a mute point in a after bailout world.
There is no way to avoid paying more to the government at this point unless we decide to embrace bankruptcy. Of course we must also cut government spending severely, and on this point I feel Obama just dosent get it.

I want higher taxes to help pay for education, since apparently our public school system neglected to teach the OP proper spelling or grammar. Is our children learning?!

The rich could be rich but then shouldn't be getting additional tax cuts.. especially not when going to war.

Tax Hikes or continued Deficit Financing(which likely will be necessary to various degrees for many years under Obama or McCain) are the 2 choices. In fact, I'll predict, that if McCain somehow succeeds to get elected, he too will allow Taxes to rise.

People who make the huge salaries are seldom negatively affected by tax increases. They simply arrange or demand a pay raise to compensate. Most average Joes do not have this option and are stuck with less money if there taxes go up.

I believe it was Jewish law that every so often, 50 or 70 years or so?, everybody's wealth was spread around evenly so people could once again become as unequal as they could as quickly as possible. We should do that here especially with corporations.

Talk to me when government is more efficient with their budget.

Talk to me when government doesn't spend $2 trillion on unnecessary wars. Talk to me when government doesn't give $3 billion a year in "aid" to wealthy countries like Israel, and then another $3 billion a year to her neighbors. Talk to me when government cuts back on its 800+ military installations around the world.

Where the hell do you get the nerve to call taxpayers, "selfish," when those crooks in Congress spend our money like its going out of style?

Warren Buffet agrees with Obama.

I doubt more than 1 or 2 people reading this thread make over $250K a year so relax, it won't affect you.

Which is better? To hike our taxes without our consent, as Bush already did and as McCain would continue doing, or with our consent, as Obama is seeking?

I leave that to each person to decide on their own.

Believe it or not, I actually think that I should be taxed more than I am. Not a bunch more, but more. I even had some fun with numbers the other day. I applied the exact same tax % increase that is being estimated Obama will apply upon the top 1% of the rich to my own family's combined gross income and do you know what I found out? I would be able to maintain my current standard of living and my rate of growth and progress in my own life will not be effected that much.

You know what that tells me? If I can do it when my families combined gross income is less than 6 figures, then people making a minimum of a quarter of a million dollars net profit can do it too! Not to mention those in the top 1% making 8-11 figures. Give me a break.

Tell that to those in Congress - they do not seem to be willing to unload their wealth

Your post would make a lot more sense if Obama wasn't promising a tax cut to 95% of Americans.

His tax program is similar to a result of a pure democracy, where the majority rules the minority.

I mean, he's buying votes here, and that's bullshit.

Otherwise, I agree with you. It was Bush & Co. that raised taxes by massively increasing spending.

I have no problem with an increase.

I have a problem on where it goes and the fact that some will get the increases and others will not.

Actually, liberty would mean people are free to collect wealth. It is socialism and communism that dictate you do not have the liberty to do so.

Calling the Democratic Party liberal is as much a lie as calling the Republican Party fiscally conservative. We need to stop using such labels, especially if we?re going to use them improperly.

Liberal
4.favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

Sounds like I?m a liberal, yet I couldn?t be further removed from the current party to which the masses label as liberal.

True... And the whole 'small businesses will get killed in taxes' scare is complete BS. I know people who have small business and they are a near endless supply of loopholes and tax write-offs.

Sorta, as I recall. At the year of Jubilee(every 50 years), all Debts were forgiven. That usually meant being freed from Slavery, which could often involve the Children of the one who originally went into Debt.

Are you referring to support of a flat federal income tax? If so then I do not agree with that. I don't have an issue with the fact that I pay a certain % of federal income taxes while others pay less or even none. Obviously my opinion on what those %'s should be will vary with the times, but beyond that I support progressive federal income taxes. Everyone still pays taxes. No one avoids taxes like FICA and sales taxes.

Ya, no kidding. Joe the Plumbers "dreams" were allegedly dashed by a 2-3% increase in Tax Bracket. That would be a rather precarious business to begin with if it were that much a hurdle. In fact, I'm having a hard time trying to envision how it could be a problem?
