I believe it was Jewish law that every so often, 50 or 70 years or so?, everybody's wealth was spread around evenly so people could once again become as unequal as they could as quickly as possible. We should do that here especially with corporations.

How ironic. I heard a statement the other day that it's believed 80% of the Jewish population will be voting for Obama.

Believe it or not, I actually think that I should be taxed more than I am. Not a bunch more, but more. I even had some fun with numbers the other day. I applied the exact same tax % increase that is being estimated Obama will apply upon the top 1% of the rich to my own family's combined gross income and do you know what I found out? I would be able to maintain my current standard of living and my rate of growth and progress in my own life will not be effected that much.

You know what that tells me? If I can do it when my families combined gross income is less than 6 figures, then people making a minimum of a quarter of a million dollars net profit can do it too! Not to mention those in the top 1% making 8-11 figures. Give me a break.

You could just write the IRS a check for the amount you should be taxed. It's okay they will cash the check.

I was thinking about donating it to my stepson's public school actually. That or invest it all in his college fund. Not sure yet.

Thanks for doing your part by trying to distract others from my point with that red herring. :disgust:

Donating it to your stepson's school or investing it in his college is a nice thing to do. But that's donating and investing. It has nothing to with how much you pay in taxes. Usually property taxes are for schools, so you could send extra there. You said you think you should pay more, and I said what is stopping you. Go ahead pay more.

**it?s that when we actually make sure that everybody?s got a shot ? when young people can all go to college, when everybody?s got decent health care, when everybody?s got a little more money at the end of the month ? then guess what? Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise.***

Hummm, where did I hear that before, especially the BOLD parts? I read the letter section to the Wall Street Journal last week and one of the writer <who was a legal immigrant from Cuba> said he heard that from Castro and his comrades before.

Here are my opions:

1. You got a shot if you really want to apply yourself. Opportunities are out there. Make it happens. Blame others/racists/man behind the tree won't cut it.

2. We can all go to college but are we learning/applying ourselves? Or waste 4 to 5 years of our lives with school loans/debts?

3. Decent healthcare is good but how are we going to do that? We are the fattest nation on earth, we spent trillions on healthcare, tax/spend more money ain't going to solve it.

4. Money left over at the end of the month. Spend less and save more. That's how I did it.

5. Afford new car and new computer. See #4.

6. All boats rise. Sound good but what happen if many boats don't want/bother to row? Oh, let make other hard working boats to row for them, right? Spreading the wealth...Problems solved.

Ya ya, we get it: Obama's a Commie.

I find this whole line of criticism quite perplexing. It's as if improving peoples Lives has become a bad thing and that only the very Top of the Economic Ladder deserve anything.

People need to quit regurgitating Ideological talking points and start Thinking.

Let see, did you even bother to see #1 and #6 of my post?

I am thinking and thinking hard. That's how legal immigrants like myself make it. We didn't sit around and wait for welfare/foodstamp/government bail out/help.

Yes, I read them all. Your listed points are good, your innuendo is ridiculous.

Whats more selfish? To expect to get to keep what you have worked for, or to expect someone elses money to be taken and given to you for not working?

Selfish indeed......

Well, your heroes spent an extra $4 trillion they didn't have, so someone is going to have to pay it back. Don't like taxes? I hear Somalia is nice.
Do you remember a balanced budget? That happened under a democrat. All righties do is cut taxes and spend.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to give more.

But there's just no reason to want to give more through higher taxes. There's PLENTY of charities out there, and they spend money more efficiently than the government anyway. Americans gave $300 billion to charities in 2007, the vast majority from individuals. Selfish individuals.

As stated before, it's the liberal politician way of life. Nobody deserves to be rich, so we have to tax them more to pay for the poor. At least that's what they sell to their constituents.

Yes, there are plenty of Charities. However, they are failing to meet the Needs of people. They do Good Works, but they don't Work to solve the issue.

Raise my taxes after you:

-Remove any child tax credits
-Make parents pay more school taxes than non-parents
-Do not give automatic citizenship to the children of parents who are not both citizens
-Remove all benefits for illegal immigrants. Pack them up and send them back
-Dramatically tax companies who knowingly employee illegal immigrants
-Cut foreign aid in half
-Close up all tax loopholes
-Come up with a plan to pull out of Iraq

Do all of that. If you still need more money, we can talk.

Which is great for me and most Americans. That part is awesome. The part which I don't like is that there is not enough cutting for me. I see tax increases for anyone as a last resort when the budget has been cut to some appropriate level. I don't feel that the budget would be cut to an appopriate level under either major candidate, therefore I oppose the tax increase on high-income earners.

Just because it doesn't hurt me doesn't make it right.

I don't have any particular problem with child tax credits, except that it might encourage people to have more children than they should. However, you do have to work to collect the maximum amount so I imagine it does help many working class families.

It does seem somewhat unfair to people without children, but mortgage interest deduction is unfair to renters, and student loan interest deduction is unfair to those who don't have student loans.

-Make parents pay more school taxes than non-parents

We all benefit from an educated population. I don't have an issue bearing some of the cost to send other people's children to school with the understanding that they will one day help me. I'm afraid the amount of money required of parents to education their children alone would drastically reduce their quality of education.

I rarely take issue with money spent on education as long as it is spent wisely.

-Do not give automatic citizenship to the children of parents who are not both citizens

No real opinion on this except that the United States is somewhat unique in that it grants citizenship based solely on location of birth. It might help prevent anchor babies.

-Remove all benefits for illegal immigrants. Pack them up and send them back

Would probably bring American jobs back for things like construction and time-sensitive industries. Most industry that currently relies on illegal labor will simply move to Mexico or other labor-rich countries thanks to free trade.

-Dramatically tax companies who knowingly employee illegal immigrants

Probably the only real way to stop illegal immigration. That and hold the hiring managers personally liable for hiring undocumented workers.

-Cut foreign aid in half

Seems reasonable enough. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the love in this country for Israel. Not that your specifically mentioning Israel, but that always seems to be the subject when we mention foreign aid (not counting Iraq). Anyone who knows the history of the region realizes that the Israelis and Palestinians haven't been all that good to each other. I recommend that everyone pick up and read "War Without End" by La Guardia. I get the feeling that many Americans are more "pro-Israel" than most Israelis.

-Close up all tax loopholes

Agreed.

-Come up with a plan to pull out of Iraq

Imperative.

Do all of that. If you still need more money, we can talk.

Due to the gigantic liabilities of Social Security and Medicare, the government still needs more money 😉.
