Shared blame because the pedestrian shouldn't have been crossing the street. Chances are, if the SUV was not in the accident, the driver would have avoided the pedestrian or hopefully horned early enough to scare him off.

whoever said the guy would've been nailed by the "SUV" wagon is right... he was barely into the right lane by the time the dude came flying through from the right of our screen... what I think happened is that the "SUV" was timing his green and had previous momentum... to be going that fast... and the red-light runner - the PT Cruiser had a yellow-->red... and he obviously ran his light. You can see all the other cars were slowing down for it - there's no way they had a green from this side.

I still don't know how the pedestrian planned to get across that slowly when his Don't Walk signal must've been solid. At least take a look to your right dude...

WDTN-TV article
Dayton Police release dramatic video that shows an SUV landing on top of a pedestrian after a crash.

It happened yesterday at West Third and Edwin C. Moses.

There are cameras at the intersection to catch red light runners.

They show the victim walking in the cross walk when a car and an SUV crashed.

TheSUV then rolled over onto the pedestrian.

Police say it all started when the driver of a PT Cruiser ran a red light and slammed into the SUV.

At least one passerby wittnessed the crash and called 9-1-1.

Police say the drivers got away with minor injuries.

But the pedestrian, 43-year-old Scott Tegtmeyer was critically injured.

Now, prosecutors are taking a close look at the video to determine what charges the driver of the p-t cruiser could face.

Investigators say analysis of the video has already revealed some crucial factors.

Pollicesay the light had been red for 28 seconds when the p-t cruiser entered the intersection.

They sayTegtmeyer should not have been crossing the street at the time because the crosswalk signal was red.

Amazingly, investigators also say that themassive dent left on the side of the SUV, caused by the impact of the crash, created a hallow space that keept Tegtmeyer from being crushed to death as the vehicle rolled over him.

Tegtmeyer was listed in serious condition Monday night.

So far, no charges have been filed.

DAYTON | Doctors revived a man Sunday just hours after medics pronounced him dead on the scene of a car crash, police officials said.

Dayton Police Sgt. Charles Hurley said Scott Tegtmeyer was walking in the intersection of Third Street and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard at 12:40 p.m. when a Chrysler PT Cruiser ran a red light, struck a Subaru sports utility vehicle and sent it into the air.

The Subaru landed upside down on Tegtmeyer and dragged him several feet across the intersection, Hurley said. Tegtmeyer, bloodied and surrounded by shattered glass, was pronounced dead on the scene, but he suddenly started breathing while in transit with paramedics. By 3 p.m., doctors had fully resuscitated him.

On Sunday evening, he was in the Miami Valley Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Neither of the female drivers of the vehicles involved were carrying passengers. The woman driving the Subaru was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Information on the condition of the driver of the PT Cruiser was not available. Hurley said police talked to eight witnesses. He also said it is possible a camera mounted high above the intersection captured the crash.

Dayton police reconstructionists, trained at putting clues together after crashes, were on the scene with digital cameras and measuring devices. The flipped Subaru showed noticeable crash damage on the left body panel. Ten yards away, the customized P.T. Cruiser with a "AAA" sticker on the back of its tinted windows showed damage to its front end.

I still can't find wether he is alive or not....

It doesn't look like the pedestrian was looking at the oncoming suv... he reacted about a second after the 2 vehicle collided...

From my previous post, after your post:
Pollicesay the light had been red for 28 seconds when the p-t cruiser entered the intersection.

It seems to be a lot shorter than that, but that's what the police determined *shrug*
If that's the case, thats one very red light.

Not really possible to tell from the video.

Highly unlikely. The Escort doesn't even start to move. And if the light had been red and turned green just before this happened, the PT Cruiser wouldn't have been going so fast, because he would have slowed down for the red light.

No, not highly unlikely at all. I see it at intersections all the time. The PT Cruiser doesn't get a redlight, the oncoming traffic does.

Doesn't matter anyway, someone found the news story.

You completely misunderstood my post, I realize intersections do work that way, I was saying it's not likely that's what happened here. Like you said though, doesn't matter anyway.

go to your profile and click the personal options tab and fix your thread display to show 100 threads per page.... at least I prefer it that way, less clicking involved 🙂

Thanks for the tip.

That pedestrian should thank the driver of the PT. If anything, the PT redirected a lot of the kinetic energy of the SUV. That guy was going to get mauled by the SUV flying through the intersection anyway. Should teach him a lesson about crossing the street at appropriate times...
