Don't people feel guilty ripping people off on Ebay?

Just browing through the auctions today and came across this. Someone was selling a link to a website that offered a Elsa Gladiac 920 for $359. The funny thing is that someone actually paid $80 for this link. Doesn't the seller feel quilty at all for ripping someone off? Here it is - Link
 
I just can't believe that someone would be stupid enough to pay for a link. Can't anyone use a search engine.

AHhh but let's say they pay for the link. If that cards a good deal, they can turn around and ebay them. makes sense?
 
Apparently eBay thinks it's OK for people to sell this kind of information.

The auction title was misleading though.
 
Guilty? He's not the one bidding. It's like the guy who bought a $500 psx2 BOX. If you are that stupid, then you deserve to get ripped...
 
I don't know, I'm not one of the assholes doing the ripping off. Any of us with an E-Bay account should should give him a negative review and possibly tell E-Bay. It's fraud, IMHO.
 
Well [AOL'ers] these days tend to think the internet consists of: AOL and all there keywords, and 2: Ebay. Nothing else exists.
 
I know this chap who REALLY rips people off... posts fake auctions (not only at e-bay), mails the winners &amp; stuff, collects the money, but doesn't send the goods... He's ripped people off by a few Thousand Dollars... &amp; that ain't exactly funny or fair!

This is pretty pathetic behavior by the seller, but I would have to say, buyer beware - nobody forced the ignorant bidders to buy this. I know I have had good luck selling used computer goods on Ebay (but at least I was selling actual GOODS, not links), and have sold most items for more than widely-available retail prices. I feel no shame, as frankly it is not my problem if people are not knowledgeable in what they are buying.

I just figured that out, thank you. I haven't sold anything on Ebay for nearly two years. It's a miracle I even remembered my password. I'm glad I have some &quot;sense&quot; now. Whew! I was full of non-sense for months, but I'm all better now. Thank you, and thank you again!

P.S. If you couldn't tell, I was being facetious.

Why the hell is it fraud? The first thing he says is that it is a link to a site selling it. It is in no way fraud. If he didnt tell the person until the auction was over that would be fraud.
 
In rbloedow's post , a fellow AT'er mentioned he did the same thing (sold a link on ebay). To his credit, he ended the auction early.

What in the hell are people thinking even BIDDING on something like that if they KNOW its a link? I mean, come on, you pay $50 to get a geforce3 for $359, in the end, you've spent $409 on a card you could have gotten for $380ish almost anywhere with them
 
I think the bigger question deals with people who pay the prices...They wouldn't bid that high if they weren't going to be happy about paying that.
 
It's fraud because it's plain out wrong to &quot;sell&quot; 25 bytes of freely available information for $81. I actually have a feeling that whole transaction was fake, or didn't go down quite as it appears, because the seller actually got a positive rating from the buyer, saying he was &quot;fast and responsive.&quot; If real, maybe they made a deal after the fact. I made a deal once with the highest bidder of an auction, reducing my price after my reserve was not met, so it can happen.
 
Weird thing is the guy who bought it for $80 left feedback saying something like &quot;Great Transaction&quot; .. guess he really wanted to pay for that link.

Well I am. How ignorant do people have to be to say something like that? You have no idea how much it irks me when people make such generalizations about AOLers. I've been an AOLer for years, as are quite a few people around these forums. And I know well that there is a world outside of AOL, in fact, I use VERY VERY few of the AOL features. Not all AOLers are quite as illiterate as all the anti-AOL propaganda would make you think.

It's fraud because it's plain out wrong to &quot;sell&quot; 25 bytes of freely available information for $81

Who are you to set the rules? Maybe the buyer could only find it locally for $500, was a little on the dumb side, and even paying for the link he saved $70. Who knows. When a transaction is completed by the books and its clearly understood by both sides what is going on, your cries of fraud are completely preposterous.

Hey, I'm just making a point. If you can't read (descriptions, user agreements, emails that ebay sends when they update their TOS) and you don't know what you're getting yourself into, don't piss and whine about it. If these guys were selling links to a GF3 for $150, you wouldn't be whining then most likely - you'd say, &quot;Hey, if I can buy that link for $25, I'll still have a card for $175, that's d@mn cheap!&quot; But since this guy is selling a link for a retail price, and this isn't a deal to YOU, you call it fraud and piss &amp; moan. You know what they say, there's a sucker born every minute...I don't really think the guy is all that great a person, but it's your own fault if you don't read the description through &amp; thouroughly. I've had a few instances where buyers failed to read my descriptions even though they are so simple a 6yo would understand them.
