Don't make a mistake like me with attempting a refund in steam.

After reflecting on what happened and reading these posts......I made a stupid mistake.

I made a mistake posting this. I should have just accepted my loss & kept it to myself. I'm sorry for coming off as a whiner.

I should have been more clear. I should be lucky I got a refund period even though the wrong items got refunded. That's what I get for even attempting to refund a stupid game worth $10. It is my fault as I thought it would be simple enough to do. So why not.

The only reason I decided to go through with this is because I thought it would be easy & with the sales going on I could save some more cash. That was a big mistake.

When it became difficult I should have said forget it. That's my mistake and I shouldn't have come on here bitching about it.

I am also sorry for my horrible grammar and punctuation.

In a way I'm glad I made the mistake of publicly posting this as I realized what a stupid Douche I was being.

I had a big idea on how I would get $10 back & save even more! LOL! It back fired. It's my fault.

I should have just accepted my fucking loss. So once again I am sorry & thanks for being honest.

In the future when a weekly sale happens. I know to just wait it out. Instead I rushed & when an item went on sale instead of accepting my mistake I tried to fix it. Which in return made it worse. I am totally wrong for it.

Sorry for wasting your time. I hope I can redeem myself in the future as not being such a douche. I really need to think before I rush on something & think before I post about something that in return is my fault to begin with.

Wait..so you wanted STEAM to treat it as if you purchased the game at Best Buy which has a price match policy?

I'm really surprised they were willing to perform a refund at all.

STEAM sales are pretty much "sold as-is with no refunds" - and I'm pretty sure most other digital distributors have the same rule as well - once you pay for the game, there is no turning back - even if the game doesn't run on your computer [it's your fault you didn't read the requirements].

Why didn't either you or the customer service rep ever use the order confirmation number? That would have been in my first e-mail if I was asking for a refund just to make sure they knew what order I was talking about.

Edit to add that was pretty cool for them to offer you a refund on a purchase. It's to bad it didn't work out for you.

Yeah it's just annoying that the wrong one got refunded.........Oh well....

There's nothing I can do.

Course now I have to tell my friend who opened & downloaded Ghostbusters.....Whoops.

Live & learn right?

Life will go on. In the future I will not rush in my purchases.

In the future I will not rush in my purchases.

That's my 1st rule of steam.. since I'm poor :). And if I can wait for a great sale I will. Or if it is a great sale but I won't play it for awhile I still won't buy. I'll just wait for the next great deal which may be even better.

on my first read through i caught the discrepancy that you mentioned games that didn't correspond with what he told you he would refund. unfortunate situation but i don't think you can really knock the CSR for this. just because they have access to your account/history/customer info doesn't make them psychic.

So, you bought something prior to it going on sale, it went on sale, you were mad you missed it and bitched. They refunded something and you're still upset.

Ugh. I read elsewhere of Steam refunding un-claimed games.

So since the Serious Sam double pack went on sale the next day I figured since Serious Sam The First Encounter HD was not claimed I could get it refunded.

I was told I could however I would have to match the price. So I do. Then it turns out I need to match the cart price.

However the Steam support rep confused the Serious Sam Double Pack & Ghostbusters as the item I wanted refunded even though I clearly said Serious Sam First Encounter HD.

The only reason I'm upset is because the wrong items got refunded.

The cart items I wanted refunded were the two Borderland DLCs & Killing Floor ( daily sale $5 ) with Serious Sam First Encounter.

I could have got those refunded then gifted the two DLCs for the sale price today & Killing Floor which is $10 now thus would make it the same price as I gifted before without Serious Sam First Encounter.

That was my plan.

However the support rep refunded the wrong item & can't un-refund it.

I tried my best to get through the hoops to get my cash back for a game.....I was thinking it wasn't worth it. Then figured this should be easy as I have other things I will pick up during the sale. I didn't know it would back fire.

btw i'll mention that you can get pre-orders refunded up until the release date with pretty much 0 resistance. did this recently with APB and had no problems.

They should give no hassle refunds on a games you've bought, but have never downloaded.

That wouldn't really work. A lot of people buy games on Steam and then don't play them for a long time. If you could refund them if you haven't downloaded them, everyone would be scrambling to refund and repurchase whenever a game goes on sale.

Well......My advice is never buy games in a cart load & try to make sure you want what your getting.

If there is a weekly sale. Wait till the last day.

I was hoping this would be a simple refund. Otherwise I would have accepted my loss. You know....$10 isn't that big of a loss. However I figured this won't be hard to do to. So why not? Read other people who did this.

However now I know. I posted this for people to learn from my mistake. However it's not all me as the Support person could have made sure he was refunding the right items....*Sigh* Oh well. Which again I should have re-stated things I said when contacting support....I'm not all in the wrong am I?

So I hope this helps people when trying to deal with a refund.

see this is where people don't follow you... he told you directly he was refunding SSHD and Ghostbusters. you should have noticed this. as i said... i caught it the first time reading through before i even knew the end result.

i'm not going to say you're an awful person for doing this or a complete moron or any other internet musings of the sort... but when you're dealing with support you have to watch absolutely every detail.

this just reminds me of people that get miffed about getting denied a MIR because they didn't include some random piece of info that was required. sure them asking for it might be just in hopes of people forgetting it... but they DID tell you up front they needed it.

i mean... it'd be completely different if he hadn't said the names of the games he was refunding and then just disappeared like a genie after he refunded some random ass game.

I did. Look at my response on #11 & #14 & #15 in the OP. I repeated the item name as it appeared on the Steam order numerous times.

I said in #11 "I need Serious Sam HD (US) returned or exchanged or whatever." meaning not the Serious Sam Double pack with Ghostbusters. Then in #14 I list what other items were included with Serious Sam HD (US) & in #15 I list the cart price of the cart items.
