Where are all you people from that cruising at 75 seems unreasonable to you? California freeways flow at 80mph+ all the time.

my point was its not smart right after getting ticketed and spending afternoon in jail. and i doubt you can show any valid statiistical proof that the average speed on any California freeway is over 80 mph. It's just the typical BS. There are undoubtably some nuts going over 80 on every freeway in the country, but that doesn't make it safe or the average cruising speed.

I totally uber-owned myself on the way home from work today. I got a ticket for 78 in a 65... and I was going with the flow of traffic.
That's probably because of the car. You just got unlucky :(

I'm surprised by many of these responses. I've very rarely ever hit 90 and would never routinely drive any distance at that speed.

Many factors are involved. Traffic in your area, type of car you drive, road conditions, and how comfortable you are driving at said speeds. Do you drive 70mph? 90 is really not a heck of a lot different.

90 isn't all that fast. I've yet to have anyone drive my car and not say "oh sh!t I'm doing 90" because it effortlessly glides up there. I'm in total agreement with Skoorb about anything he has said, or will say in this thread. :) We've talked in depth about speeding(as I have with most of the intelligent or rational people I know), and I simply don't find speeding at 80-90 to be all that big of a deal. Most people in the fast lane are doing 80-90 around here and they are doing a freaking crackdown on speeders right now. On my way to the Knoxville game I wanted to preserve my lifetime of no interstate tickets so I was only doing about 78 in a 70 the entire way. Traffic was easily passing me at 80-90, and at one point my friend was driving and following a cluster of cars doing 90.

In congested Urban areas I can understand the hazard of driving fast, but if you live near an interstate that isn't congested then you'll be able to see that many people do 80-90. Most wrecks I've seen on the interstate have been due to merging, lane changes, drunks, inattentiveness, or a combination thereof. I'm not saying speeding isn't a factor, but someone who speeds and pays hyper-attention to the road is better than some ditz driving 65mph ANY day in my book.

Speeding tickets are just a due that everyone in society has to pay. My step-father had 47 years without a ticket or a wreck, and then the local police in the mountains(where they live now) got him for 34 in a 30, and then a week later a deer ran into my Mom's Aviator while he was driving. Sh1t happens. 34 in a 30 is bullcrap though! 47 years! No wrecks no tickets. He always drives about 85 on the interstate.

75-80MPH is fine, in fact I was doing 85 on I-294 (Chicago suburbs) and had a State trooper pull up right behind me. I panicked and got over into the middle lane and he just blasted right past me. Add the 5-6 hours of driving at ~75MPH I did last night\this morning (went to Decatur and back) without being bothered at all (and passed quite a few times) and I'd say the State Police in IL don't really care about speeders unless you're being an absolute moron.

First time I ever got pulled over I was doing 96 in a 45 construction zone and it was 1 in the morning. I thought I was done for. I rolled down my window and cop gave me a nice verbal reeming and told me he could take me to jail. I was only 16 and was scared sh!tless, was literally shaking. He didn't ticket me, didn't even give me a warning. I think I got off because he had somewhere else to go because as soon as he got back in his car he flipped a bitch and took off down the road pretty quick. My buddy with me was laughing so hard he was in tears.

That sucks. I've never been ticketed about 90mph. Plenty of 88mphs though. Always in the same place too. About twice a year. Probably for the rest of my life.

I've gotten into a drag race on a stretch of 121 North in Grapevine, with a Mustang Cobra, and did 140mph, which is the governor on my truck. I imagine I'd go to jail for that.

But I live my life for me, for me to have fun, so to hell with the law, or other people, or anything that gets in my way.

Doesn't double the speed limit = jailtime? Either way I wasn't going to argue with him about it.

I got this crazy idea to put a supercharger on a 5.4 liter triton v8 engine. It worked out well! :p

That explains it! Is it a normal F150/250 with the SC added or are you the lucky owner of a Lightning?

Can't decide if I'm going to keep this one, or get one of the new 500hp war machine's that are on the way... Of course, for the kinda scratch they'll cost, I could get an M3....

When did that happen to you? And in what county?

Both the trooper and the jailer told me it was a new thing that county (among many others) was doing.

Yeah, S/C 351W with tons of other suspension and brake mods. It puts out 500HP and 495lb/ft of torque. It does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.6 seconds@122mph. Also has huge tires on 18" x 10" rims.

That's what I consider the ultimate Mustang, the new one just turns me off. I'm not a fan of the retro look.

I agree. HOWEVER, 90 may not be that fast, but at 90 the time you have to react to someone else's mistakes goes way down. Driving isn't about not making mistakes, it's about compensating for the fact that other people will make them. Having a clean record and safe driving habits does not make any difference should someone else make a bonehead move. If that should happen, at 90MPH you are unlikely to walk away without a scratch and likely to take other people with you.

It's somewhat similar to arguments about smoking. Do what you want to yourself, but don't do it around me.
