It's some sort of status symbol to people here I think, being part of the Google's in-crowd or something. Sorry to tell all you Gmail members, but having an e-mail account does not entitle you to Google stock options nor does it put you on the fast-track for Google employment!
I'll say it again, if it's space you need, and you have spare computer parts and a static IP, you can set up a Linux box running squirrelmail and have web access.

I don't see the point either. Some guy @ work was telling me about it. I told him that it'll just be a magnet for spam. It's not like you'll ever come close to filling up a gig of mail (unless you just love spam!)
I pay $4/mo to have my domain hosted. WELL worth it.

not everyone is that smart
I agree. I did not see the point if it, but when someone I am going to be working with on a software project said he had an invite, I asked him for it. After I started playing with it, the interface is growing on me. I personally think the interface of gmail is why it is so popular with the people that have gotten it. I will never use a gig of mail, but the interface is definitely superior to any I have used before.Originally posted by: saxguy
ok. let me say it again.
Gmail is NOT about the space.

It uses ActiveX? I am using a mac, so I know it isn't using ActiveX on my computer with Safari.Originally posted by: Amorphus
I like the ActiveX functions. It's like a program in itself. 🙂
