Don't buy things from Bestbuy

Mellow

So I get a friend a Mogwai CD from Bestbuy 2 days ago (the 22nd). Brand new. He opens it on his birthday, the 23rd, and the CD is covered in ******. The bottom of the disc is sticky, and looks as if it had been skated around on. Scratches all over, with a filmy layer of stuff covering it. Needless to say, the disc would not play in any number of CD players.

So today, we take it back today, with receipt in hand, to the Bestbuy. The girl at the returns gives us a flat out no. "The only way it could have gotten like that" she informs me, is if "we spilled soda on it". Her vast knowledge of all things CD manufacturing obviously keeps her in the know. Upset, we then get to her manager, who says the same thing. They're calling me a liar to my face, and explaining to me that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY the CD came like that, and I must have ruined it when putting it into a CD player. 2 morons down, and we finally get to the HEAD BESTBUY HONCHO.

This guy looks 17 years old. He informs us that he is the ultimate supreme manager, and that he in no way will ever take back a damaged CD that's "sticky". As if he would have taken it if it weren't sticky!? I'm extremely pissed by now, and tell him I basically payed $15 for a coaster. He says "Tough". He tells me I can argue all day, but he has to go, and walked away from me.

I went home, ready to kill someone. I then had the idea to go to Mogwai's label (Matador records). One call, i got a real person on the phone, she told me to mail them the CD with a brief description of the problem, and I'll get a new one. Easy as that.

Cliffs:
Bestbuy refuses to refund/trade a broken CD they sold me
Matador records (the CD's label) tells me they'll swap it for a new one if i send them the CD in the mail.

lKASJDKLASJDLASKJD DON'T BUY FROM BESTBUY!

wow it's one thing to return an open CD but refusing an exchange? that doesn't make any business sense since they just ship that shvt back to the label and deduct it from AP.

A similar thing happened to me a long time ago when I purchased a Radeon 9200 from BestBuy. I took it home an opened it to find a fried nVidia card in the box. The store would not accept a return, and I eventually had to call the BestBuy corporate office. I convinced them to send me out a gift card in the amount of the video card purchase, which I in turn sold to a friend.

Fsck BestBuy.

I'm totally convinced. I will never shop at Best Buy again because of a bad experience at 1 store by a guy I don't know.

Seriously. Look at it from their point of view. Would YOU believe that? HELL NO.

Bestbuy is no newegg thats for sure. The only reason I ever go there is if they have one of those rebate deals that you know they're losing money on. Otherwise...why? If I wanted to pay $75 for a 256meg stick of pc2700 memory I could get that anywhere. Actually, thats not true because most companies update their prices on electronics more then once every 5 years.

Heh didn't you guys know BestBuy reseals return items? I'm sure some stores do a tiny bit of that illegal crap.

They should have at least given you an exchange.

I think you just got unlucky w/ the store and employees there. Despite what most people think, not all BB's are evil. Well I do agree that BB's customer service is pretty ****** and that I've read more horror stories about them than any other store.

But I guess I'm lucky the BB's around me all seem to have decent workers there, but who knows, it might change in the future haha.

That was standard policy on any returned items that *looked good* at the store I worked at a few years back.

I hate Bestbuy too... a lot of people do, but they are convenient when you need something quick. We don't have Fry's or anything similar around here, so Bestbuy is usually the best place to buy from. CompUSA and Circuit City stores around here are just disgusting. But yeah, Bestbuy sucks.
