So I get a friend a Mogwai CD from Bestbuy 2 days ago (the 22nd). Brand new. He opens it on his birthday, the 23rd, and the CD is covered in ******. The bottom of the disc is sticky, and looks as if it had been skated around on. Scratches all over, with a filmy layer of stuff covering it. Needless to say, the disc would not play in any number of CD players.
So today, we take it back today, with receipt in hand, to the Bestbuy. The girl at the returns gives us a flat out no. "The only way it could have gotten like that" she informs me, is if "we spilled soda on it". Her vast knowledge of all things CD manufacturing obviously keeps her in the know. Upset, we then get to her manager, who says the same thing. They're calling me a liar to my face, and explaining to me that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY the CD came like that, and I must have ruined it when putting it into a CD player. 2 morons down, and we finally get to the HEAD BESTBUY HONCHO.
This guy looks 17 years old. He informs us that he is the ultimate supreme manager, and that he in no way will ever take back a damaged CD that's "sticky". As if he would have taken it if it weren't sticky!? I'm extremely pissed by now, and tell him I basically payed $15 for a coaster. He says "Tough". He tells me I can argue all day, but he has to go, and walked away from me.
I went home, ready to kill someone. I then had the idea to go to Mogwai's label (Matador records). One call, i got a real person on the phone, she told me to mail them the CD with a brief description of the problem, and I'll get a new one. Easy as that.
Cliffs:
Bestbuy refuses to refund/trade a broken CD they sold me
Matador records (the CD's label) tells me they'll swap it for a new one if i send them the CD in the mail.
